Daniel Nugent is HERE IN THEORY. An acoustic guitar, a vocal line and the ocassional friend that stops by to throw in a lead or two is what this project is all about. I love rocking out to a full band just as much as everyone else, but raw acoustic sound and the simplicity of it always draw me back to my roots.
This project started a long, long time ago, in my head before it even hit paper, let alone a recording studio. I was and still am completely infatuated with strumming a guitar around a campfire or a small group of people. A "Handful", to be exact. I really love the intimacy of a small show. I found myself writing songs on an old acoustic guitar my mother had bought me years before as a christmas gift. Before long the songs began to form themselves and I had enough material to record and E.P. of various tunes. I recorded it in an apartment in the midst of the sweltering heat of Orlando Florida utilizing two bedrooms, the living room, and the bathroom as a vocal room. With the help of my pal Joe Essar, I left Florida with a cd full of songs I like to refer to as "Heartfelt Ammunition"
A couple years later I found that I had almost abandoned writing music completely. Since the "Heartfelt Ammunition" songs never got to far away from the few people I gave them too due to life and it's wonderful surprises, I decided it was time to start writing again.
After the passing of a close friend and drummer from a previous band I felt it was necessary to begin writing again for my own mental health. I was tired of wasting life and time. I took a look at myself doing nothing with the music I loved and said," Wow, I'm here, sitting right here, right on this couch, in theory. But where am I really? Why am I doing nothing with my music? Why am I just HERE IN THEORY?" Shortly after my self realization I picked up that acoustic and went to town. The words and the music flowed in unison so rapidly I could barely keep up with a pen and paper. Everything I had kept bottled up inside for the last few years was breaking the surface and fighting for daylight. I did nothing to stop it! I guided it into the acoustic and out onto paper to end up with a mass of songs I would later reviel as the "New Material". The name for the project was so obvious it hurt. It is a constant reminder that things can and will always get better. That as long as you tried your hardest, you tried. As long as your doing something you are at no risk of just being here in theory.
With the world ahead and no exact path chosen I will be heading out to explore what is in the future for myself as well as my music. Every show I have played seems to go better than the last and the people I have met along the way are amazing. With a new album coming out the first week of September titled "So far so good", shows being booked while you're reading this Bio, and a music video in the works, my hands are full and my eyes are wide.
I look forward to meeting everyone who has taken or will take an interest in my music because support and love are crucial in the independant music industry of today. For any of us to survive it will take all of us!
