Herenwen (where the maidens rule, in elfic language), was born in 2005 in Mexico City, when guitarrist Adriana González started to look for girls interested in forming a Heavy Metal band. After some adjustments in the original lineup, Herenwen’s first solid lineup was ready by October of ’05, it featured “Gabbie” Aguirre on lead vocals and rythm guitar, Adriana González on lead guitar, Lucila Guevara on bass, Jimena Contreras ..boards, and Daniela Moyado on drums.
Herenwen made their debut in the local heavy metal circuit in February 2006, achieving a good response from the audience and nailing some gigs at important spots. On May ’06 they released their first material, a 4 song demo called “Amazons Army”. Nevertheless, the band had to face some hard times when Gabbie decided to leave in July ’06 . Even though this affected the band’s spirits, they agreed to move on, and Gabbie’s place in the band was occupied by Rana Verde’s ex-guitarrist Deborah Kaminitz on guitars, forming the actual lineup with Lucila as the new vocalist.
The band has continued to play at important spots in the heavy metal circuit all over the country, as well as Rock Festivals ( being the Monterrey Metal Fest the most important) and as opening acts for international bands like Edguy and Dublin Death Patrol. The band has also received attention from the local media , appearing on magazines like RyR and Heavy Rock, and Gótica, internet radio programs like Mordormx and Clinic Diafragma, newspapers like Estadio, and internet portals like plaskis.se (Swedish music portal) . The band is also appears in the book “Sonidos Urbanos” (Urban Sounds) , edited in 2007, that features the 150 most representative and original bands in Mexico City.
