About me:
Awful Arthur's and EventZone have joined forces to bring a Virginia Tech fundraising event to the area most closely tied to the VT community, the Roanoke Valley. If you are not a student, alum, or employee of VT, you know someone who is. The citizens of Roanoke have been some of the first to respond in times of crisis for tragedies all over our country. But the tragedy that occurred last week is different - it is Virginia Tech, and Virginia Tech is not just a neighbor to the Roanoke Valley, but to many of us, VT is family. Here is your opportunity to do what you do best - HELP our family in Blacksburg and beyond. Show them, and each other, that we will not forget; however, we will move on and grow stronger in the process. Come celebrate life, and the Hokie Nation, on Thursday. Enjoy food from Awful Arthur’s, beverages, and live music from over a dozen of our area’s best local bands. All proceeds will benefit the Virginia Tech Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. Hello Here's to the Hokies!

Today marks 3 months since the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the victims, their families, and their friends. We would like to take this opportunity to emphasize a heroic act that occured on April 16, 2007.

In the April 23 issue of The Catholic Virginian, Deacon Michael Ellerbrock of St. Mary Catholic Church in Blacksburg said "One officer told me an ROTC student grabbed (the gunman) from behind and got (shot)." That student was Cadet Matthew La Porte, a freshman and member of the Air Force ROTC on campus. A Washington Post profile also reported that Matthew "was killed trying to help those around him" and "died a hero".

Like Professor Liviu Librescu, who blocked the classroom doorway while students escaped through the windows, Matthew La Porte is also a hero of 4/16/07. Both of these brave men will forever be recognized for their sacrifice and valor on that tragic day.

There is a song called "Your Guardian Angel" by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus that expresses some of the qualities of heroic people such as these. It can be found on our website at the top of our playlist under the "Influences" section. The song was originally referred to us by a young relative of one of the other victims. Also, we always extend an open invitation to listen to "Children of April" and to view our slideshow.

One last thing. There's a very moving video on YouTube called "Virginia Tech Tragedy Tribute" by rsschi. This 7-minute video recaptures the events of April 16 and its aftermath with stirring images set to the song "Better Days" by The Goo-Goo Dolls. It then pays tribute to the victims using their pictures set to Linda Ronstadt's song, "Goodbye My Friend".

May the victims lost be in our hearts forever.
Frankie Smith

I have posted the pictures from last Thursdays, Roanoke Rockin Remembrance.  Usually I give these pictures to anyone who wants them but in trying to do my part to help the victims and families of the VA Tech tragedy, I am making these pictures available for purchase only.  ALL proceeds will go The Hokies United in Caring Fund.

If you wish to purchase a photograph, please email the picture number at the top of the page (ie-"hokiespt2_200.jpg") and I will then send you a link through Paypal to purchase. You can either email me through Myspace or morristk@gmail.com.

Because I was inspired by the generosity of my buds in TK-421.

I'm going to try and make it to at least a portion to all the acts on Thursday to take pictures. If you've never seen my pictures they aren't so bad. ;)

After the event, I will make all the pictures available for download for $1 ea. ALL the proceeds will go to the United In Caring Fund for Victims of the Virginia Tech Tragedy through United Way. (Yes, they may in fact have trouble cashing my $3 check but whatev. :) )

If you have any doubts about how "ok" my pictures are you go here for some samples: www.bndgrl.com
