Sounds Like
...our spirits will not be broken. ..we will
continue the struggle until full independence is obtained...
...and this annihilation is taken by us to be gratitude for the blood
of our fathers, shed in the defense of Russian lands, for the
valor of our daughters--heroines of the USSR, younger sisters,
who today are jeered for their honour.
Heroines of the U.S.S.R is the solo project of Matthew Spokes. He uses computer based technology and field recordings to create a chimera of experimental ambience and natural sounds. Utilising a slap dash combo of Pure Data, home made programming and faulty home made instruments to explore the world of rain, ice, dark cities, imagined animals and so on.
Heroines has recently finished work on a new album, provisionally titled 'A Map of Lost Causes'. It follows an explorer around a mysterious continent, that also features in the book 'The Last Night Tree'. Three of the tracks can be heard on this very page. The album may be released later this year, if a label is interested.
The tracklisting is as follows
1. Abandoned Shack (with) Fragments of Homunculus Skeleton Found There
2. Julia Loses Her Way
3. Piano in the Sea of Old Smiths Cove
4. Dance of the Cryptids
5. Concealed Treasure in the Museum of Telephone Directories
6. Mellow Dreams on Fruitless Evenings
7. Somewhere Around Dawn an Ancient Bird Call is Heard
8. The Future of the Native Populations of 'Lost Causes'
9. A Map of Wind and Shadow
