The Horror Enthusiasts Society of Western PA's Blurbs |
About me:
Members of the Associated Artists of Butler County formed the Horror Enthusiasts Society after the first Art of Horror to continue exploring the darker side of artistic expression. The focus is on horror, but many of the members are interested in Sci-fi, suspense, fantasy, and other genres.
Horror is perhaps one of the oldest expressions of human imagination. H. P. Lovecraft said that fear is the oldest emotion and the most primeval. Many classical painters like Goya and Gustave Doré could have some of their masterpieces classified as horror in a modern sense. The Divine Comedy by Dante could be read as horror, especially Book One the Inferno.
The main goal of the society is the supporting alternative styles of artistic expression with the focus on Horror. We are looking for people willing to perform theatre, produce short films, readings, and art shows.
Many, if not all of the members of the Horror Enthusiasts are members of the Associated Artists of Butler County. We are a group within a group. We take part in many activities at The Art Center in support of the A.A.B.C. The Spirit Café and the Interested In Writing Society are separate groups involving most of the same people in the H.E.S.
The Spirit Café is an open mic stage on Friday evenings (except art show openings) at The Art Center from 7 to 9. The Interested in Writing Society is a writing critique group that meets every third Saturday at The Art Center from 1 to 4 pm. Anyone is welcomed to come and meet with us.
The next year the Horror Enthusiasts Society will be expanding, looking forward to hold several different activities and events leading up to a bigger, better, and disturbing Art of Horror 2008.

We are looking for anyone who has an interest in the Horror genre. Those with an open mind towards creativity and the arts.
