About KINA

Kina has a presence. Also an honesty and compassion that sometimes blazes through her songs and sometimes whispers softly. Kina released her first solo record on the Dreamworks label in the year 2000. She has been featured on Jay Leno, deemed “Buzzworthy” by MTV and labeled “Hot R&B rule breaker” by Rolling Stone magazine. Kina’s sound is soulful R&B with the energy of rock and a gloss of pop. Kina is a vocal stylist. She moved from her native city of Detroit to Los Angeles looking for musical experiences. She bounced from one musical opportunity to the next and supported herself the best way she could.. She eventually found herself in the Grammy nominated group, Brownstone, who enjoyed Top 10 success in the 90’s and toured with them for two and a half years. Kina amicably left the group in 1997 and walked right into a promising deal at Dreamworks Records. Kina was a label wide project backed by strong belief in her talent and unbelievable support by both her label and power management. The record was released in 2000 to amazing reviews. TIME magazine said “What Tina Turner knew 30 years ago, Kina Cosper has rediscovered today”. This was a rock-pop driven collection of songs which sometimes screamed messages of empowerment, which can be heard in the guitar driven first single, and popular anthem, “Girl from the Gutter”. This is a deeply personal and very powerful song which speaks to anyone whose ever felt down and out because they were counted out. The boldness and skill in the delivery of “Girl from the Gutter” are undeniable. The second single was the very popular, “Me”, a joyful and pure pop song that helps each listener understand that they are enough. Both these songs spawned remixes that continue to extend the reach and life of Kina’s listeners. Kina played in venues like The Roxy in Los Angeles, Double Door in Chicago, Bowery Ballroom in NYC and became the opening act for a national Savage Garden tour. Kina is working on new music scheduled for a 2013 release. She’s also created an AMAZING one woman show, also scheduled for production in 2013.
