"catchy and kind of reminds me of the New York Citizens with a bit more of a pop punk influence and a Mustard Plug type feel with the horns. They sound distinctly 3rd wave with a heavy dose of pop hooks and sing along choruses. The best thing about the band is that you can tell they are having fun and it comes across in the music."

We play in a band. Our awesome trumpet player is leaving for a far off land. That's where you come in.
Remember 1996? Neither do we. We like ska and pop/punk so we're playing it right now. Not then, now. But we're looking for a full time trumpet player.
We're Hey Stranger, and If you live in or near to New York City, are of legal drinking age, and want in on a good time, you should email us. We practice once a week, and gig 1-2 times a month. We all have jobs and school, but we take this project seriously. If you dig the sound, are into writing some sweet ass horn lines, and have your act together, then email us. Right now.

Hey Stranger is living proof that there is much more to find on Craigslist than used futons or random hookups. Although all band members reside in the New York City area, none were previously acquainted before Frankie (drummer) of “The Royal NoneSuch” and Mihailis (saxophone) unwittingly each put up simultaneous messages on Craigslist looking to bring some players together for a ska band in the Fall of 08'. Frankie subsequently answered Mihailis' message and suggested that the two combine forces.
Danny (lead guitar) from “Point for Lou," Jake (bass) formerly of “Tap Out," and Tony (guitar/vox) of “The Great Escape” fame all quickly responded and came together to find that they clicked well musically and otherwise after only a couple of practices. Shortly thereafter, Spencer and Brian joined to further bring down overall practice space costs as well as round out the brass sound on trombone and trumpet, respectively, finalizing the lineup. Together, the group quickly formed a bond which will last until the end of time (or until someone asks them to stop).
With influences ranging from Reel Big Fish to Bach to Top 40 Hits, Hey Stranger has forged a diverse sound which touches on these influences but is still much their own. In February of 09', the band recorded their debut EP and are ready and looking to bring some ska, a little class, and a few funky dance moves back to the New York music scene.
Thanks guys! Just doin what I can to spread some ska love. Really dig your sound, just wish I could hear more of it. Keep at it and soon I'm sure I'll be hearin it a lot more.
Great show at Fontanas last night! I will let you know as soon as the Fall issue hits the streets. Looking forward to hearing more from Hey Stranger!....Best wishes, CK (www.newyorkwaste.com)
what's up? i'm glad to see not everyone from tap out dropped off the face of the earth.
i don't know if the band the speakeasies that we're playing with is the same one you're thinking of...but probably not. this band is from PA and i've never really heard of them. a bunch of bands have that same name.
i like your name...it kind of reflects how you guys got together. cool stuff.
