HFMC's Interests

| General | The congregation, which was to become the Hayward Free Methodist Church had its inception on February 25, 1943 and was previously known as Ashland Free Methodist Church. It was Superintendent E.E. Smith who spearheaded the campaign for a building in Hayward. He was supported by then Bishop Ormston and the two successfully persuaded the Rev. Lyle Brock to resign in Ripon and relocate to Hayward to begin the building project. The Hayward Church was made a Conference project with latter backing the project with over $25,000 in personal and bank loans.
For nearly twenty years, this original structure with additions served the local congregation well. However, in 1976 it was possible for the congregation to locate into a more spacious building next door. Valued now at more than two-million dollars, the new building was purchased originally for $150,000. A spacious sanctuary provides seating for more than 350 people; there are several classrooms; a library; office space; and a large fellowship and social hall. This facility was dedicated as a Free Methodist place of worship on April 11, 1976.
