Hidden Door are a group of creative and open-minded people. They have been described as “a reminder that the trip-hop of the nineties is still appealing to a 21st century audience” and “perfect for the escapee who wants to take a trip to timelessness”. The music itself is a mixture of trip–hop, electronica, rock , jazz and folk. Every song has a different flavour, resulting in Hidden Door’s unique sound and their unforgettable live show.
The group initially contained just two members; Agata Kubiak and Jakub Tucholski, two Polish-born musicians living in London. The duo began to write together and drummer Matt Baker joined the group in 2008. After Matt’s input into the arrangement of Agata and Jakub’s ideas, the group was finally ready to perform, under the name of ‘Hidden Door’. After some successful gigs around London and the recording of their first E.P, the group decided a bass guitarist was required to fill out the sound. Several auditions later, Alex Praill was in place as the fourth member and the band continued to improve and perfect their live sound. The final line-up was completed on the eve of Hidden Door’s E.P launch at the Cobden Club. The band had decided that an additional musician was needed to play some of the brass and woodwind parts of their songs live. A few days before the launch, saxophonist Oliver Seton joined the band.
Since their E.P launch, Hidden Door have continued to be heard on the London and UK music scene. They have recorded and released ‘Karma’, a single that breaks away from the ‘trip-hop’ sound of their earlier recordings, their music has been broadcasted on BBC6, Polish Radio London and Welsh Flame Radio and they have continued to write new songs and play shows around London.
In June 2009, the band embarked on an 11-day tour of Poland, where they were well received by audiences of varied tastes and ages in venues across the country. During their time in Poland, as well as selling large amounts of CDs and merchandise, Hidden Door were broadcast on Sfera Radio UMK, Wroclaw Studenckie Radio and German Freies Radio. They also received TV coverage, with interviews and excerpts of their live shows aired on TV Mlawa and TVSM Grudziadz.
“When flowers died…” (E.P) is available to buy in all major MP3 stores including iTunes (worldwide), Amazon MP3, Napster and eMusic.
