... currently working as the CTO for a startup and not in a band. Though he's planning to make a record before he turns 31.
Hodge-podge of stuff here -- one cover (the Travis song) and the rest are originals spanning a bunch of styles. "Hypnotized" was a collaborative effort; I did the lyrics/melody/vocals, mixing was done by Percy Trayanov (of Atomica), and Guy Destin provided the samples. The rest were all written/recorded/mixed by yours truly.
Sorry I've been so hard to reach the past few months. Between prepping my 80s show ("give a little respect...to me" - Erasure), learning new shamisen pieces (any excuse to look like something out of Memoirs of a Geisha!) and recording my Transformers tribute album (Optimus Prime - I think about you all off the time), I barely sleep!
But as busy as I am, I feel extremely blessed by such loving, caring and supportive fans, friends and family. You make every moment of this journey worth it! As a way to say thanks, and in my best efforts to spread holiday cheer, my Strangely Beautiful CD is now available for f-r-e-e (or almost ;-)
That is, you can now pay what you want/can. Any amount. No catch!
So stock up on copies of Strangely Beautiful now - they make great stocking stuffers and they'll only cost you what you pay :-) Please message me your mailing address and how many you want and I'll get them to you in no time!
Thanks again + best wishes for a nice, safe and peaceful holiday season.
You're right: your version of Marquette, MI is better than the original. Okay, maybe I shouldn't say 'better.' How about -- it's really fucking pretty.
you should totally use that strange eyelid twitch photo that allison's scared of as your new profile pic. although that might seem too screamo or sumthin (wtf is screamo anyways?!)
alison may not have bought socks, but i know i did. or something else. maybe a wig and some falsies? the things one does to prepare for a music video shoot (O_o)
Speaking of ramen, check out all the goodness that is this site: http://mattfischer.com/ramen/ Hot dayamn. I feel so inspired, I think I need to write a song...
when i do finally leave the 9-5 though, we'll have to busk so i have enough to pay for the requisite starving-artist ramen fund! union square, here we come. time for some u2 covers ;-)
Oh shoot - while I'm totally flooding your comment boards like some over caffeinated folkie from hell, I'd love to see you totally record an entire album. I'd so promote that s**t for you, since I'm a big fan of your material :-) Perhaps (as I'm sure Allison would agree with) I should have Ms. Slates make the suggestion ;-)
Btw - I totally hear a band arrangement and two harmony lines for "The Humpty Dumpty Love" (arpeggio el. guitar part and piano part, drums, viola... dobro??) If you've got the funds to hit The Bunker Studio, maybe we can record it there. Or at your place. Whatever works...
Apparently Vik is up as late as I am, as he's presumably addicted to the crack that is MySpace (btw folks, contrary to the West Coast centric time clock on this damn site, it's 1:24AM here...)
holy s**t - the humpty dumpty song is so f*ckin' beautiful. i hate it when you make me swoon, beyotch. but kudos - well done :-) you know i totally admire your playing, singing, songwriting, dicipline, etc. right? wanna be my ghostwriter? nyuk nyuk nyuk. or shoot. i'll be yours. you'll make my songs sound orgasmic ;-)
Hey, Ms. Slates...I'm writing you a message through Vik, here. So, I've noticed that when *you* ask my dear friend here to upload a song, it magically appears ever so quickly. When *I* ask him, well, let's just say, I know who pulls more weight here of the two of us (don't mind the fact that he wouldn't KNOW you if it weren't for me, but I digress...).
Anyway, so Vik has recorded my request -- In The Sun. But he's a perfectionist and blah, blah, blah... it's not "ready" yet.
But I have a sneakin' suspicion if *you* ask him to put it up here, it might just find its way onto myspace.
Vik is THE harmony king. Woof. We're gonna take over the world with R.E.M. / U2 covers ;-) Just you wait and see - we'll win your hearts with our sparkly Girlyman-esque harmony vocals on our number 1 acoustic rock interpretation of "All I Want Is... Shiny Happy People". Hawtness. Z100 and KTU can eat our dust. We're keepin' it REAL, if we don't misplace our capos, that is. Speaking of, where the f**k did I put mine?! Doh!
yo VIK wattup my brotha! I'm honored to be tha first comment on ur page and that "Matter of Time" joint sounds great man keep up the good work. Keep in touch - KINION (Ian)
