Influences
High Hawk has been described as drawing upon the roots of any and all styles that contribute to the American sound. Nostalgic melodies of war-time and antebellum Appalachia, angular tones of Central and South America, blues from the southern region of the States, thouthful notes of Asia, and deeper rounder grooves from Africa all find their way to the foundation of this American Group.
High Hawk is a Chicago-based 5 piece comprised of musicians representing a broad spectrum of musical training and styles. Their albums and live performances are centered around original music and lyrics drawing from the varied American vernacular and infused with rhythmic and melodic structures from the world abroad. (lately its been a lotta rock!)
woooow you aint even going to believe this...i completed this offer to receive a Coach handbag with a wallet absolutely FREE and it totally came!! since i KNOW its not a hoax now, i'm gunna go back real fast and get another one or two to send out as a gift..you should go get a few as well LMFAO! aint the one they sent me hot?
high hawk and palliard drink a bottle of whiskey and reenact "It's a Wonderful Life" in the snow. palliard falls down, hanging on a lamp post, burbling and swaying. high hawk kicks palliard, throws water in palliard's face, and drags palliard back in time for the holiday ball. christmas lights are strewn on the ground. there is more mistletoe hanging from the rafters than anyone has ever seen. later, palliard wakes up slouched in the corner. high hawk is twirling the ghost of christmas past, dancing cheek to cheek on the glistening ballroom floor. palliard dodders up to mark the way home alone, dress shoes sloshing along the curb.
I am thrilled to see High Hawk resurrected. I have been a fan of Alford in all his incarnations (including the O.G. Folkswagon). Allright, here is the deal. Ryan, since you seem to be the only one who is internet savvy, I need you to help me. I need a copy of the full length album. I will gladly pay you, or owe you a CD cover design/webpage design as soon as I’m done with my Graphic Design degree (year and a half). One other thing “Burial Ceremony” was much better (in my mind) acoustic. It had that ominous drone tone. It was a better fit with the vulture/desert thing. Not to mention Josh’s vocal was clearer and not washed out by guitar. Anyways, after my critique, I’m sure you’ll be happy to help me get that CD. I can give you my address via email (sethconley777@yahoo.com) Please respond. Josh’s music has always been a constant source of inspiration to me and when I’m weak I pop in the EP or other older recordings from ages back, and I am once again empowered/whole. I made a MySpace account just to contact you. Hook it up.
I would be at the Dec.9th show with bells on to enjoy the bittersweet evening but I have a show and there's no way out. I'm so sad...so sad...so sad....
Hey josh,
Do consider Mark Bolin an influence in yr singing style? Just curious. A friend burned me the first 5 T-rex albums, and i guess it just pleasantly reminded me of you.
Butcher's Legs,Amonite,High Hawk, no matter how you spell it it's beauty in perfect form. This is absolutely music at it's best. You guy's should be playing Carnegie Hall and have a place at the top of the Rolling Stone's all time best albums list.
Elegance meets the heartland, gut bucket blues meets ethereal poetic wanderlust. Brilliant minds create melodic bliss. Josh, when o' when will we sing together Libra? Love you guys.
