About me: Highland Fusion is a unique performing dance group that fuses a variety of different styles of dance and music together. Through their own original choreography, they blend traditional Scottish Highland dance with modern styles, such as jazz and ballet. This, in turn, is set to upbeat Scottish tunes which range from foot-tapping fiddler music to bagpipes and rock and roll.
Formed in January of 1996, and based in San Diego, CA, the group has performed in a variety of different shows, including repeat performances at the Costa Mesa Highland Games and the San Diego Highland Games. They also perform in cultural exhibitions as well as for private parties.
Highland Fusion's style simultaneously brings a modern flavor to traditional Scottish dance and the culture of Scotland to standard forms of jazz and ballet. Accompanied by their intense energy level, Highland Fusion entirely reinvents Highland Dance.
We are always looking for new dancers, so if you are a Highland dancer in the Southern California area who loves the performance side of dancing, drop us a line! You can also find out more about us at www.highlandfusion.com.
Who I'd like to meet: Other highland dancers, or anyone who likes Scottish stuff! Also, if anyone needs Highland dancers for an upcoming performance, let us know!
If you ever come up north (we're about half way between San Fran & Sacramento), we'd love you to stop by our Irish dance classes and join us for some dancing!!!!
Groundhog day, the contemplation of spring and of things to come, new beginnings and fresh starts as the earth prepares to awake from her long winters nap.
Manny thing to do like soil to till and seeds to plant, fences to mend and gates to latch.
But where dos this tradition of Groundhog Day comes from? It is very ancient, probably introduced to the Teutonic and Celtic peoples by the Roman Legions.
A Scottish rhyme: “If Candlemas day be dry and fair, The half o’ winter to come and mair, If Candlemas day be wet and foul. The half of winter’s gone at Yule.”
Candlemas Day is an event associated with early Christianity where the clergy would bless the candles.
A German saying: “For as the Sun shines on Candlemas Day. So far will the snow swirl until the May.”
In Europe it was the wise hedgehog that would cast his shadow on February 2nd.
It appears that it was the German settlers of Pennsylvania Who brought it to America and decided that the Groundhogs, which they found in abundance here, resembling in appearance and sign of being a most sensible and wise animal, could fill in on the duties of the European Hedgehog on February 2nd.
Thanks for the add! Shoot, I was at the Bakersfield Games and somehow managed to miss your performance. Your video is great--I hope to see you somewhere else soon. What's your schedule? Will you be at the Queen Mary in Feb?
