About me:
The Highland Park Players (www.highlandparkplayers.com), under the sponsorship of the Park District of Highland Park, is a not-for profit community theatre founded in March 1988 The vision of the Board of Directors, is to provide an accessible, hands-on theatre for the community, and an outlet for the talents of area residents that would offer the unique pleasures of live theatre for family, friends, and the community as a whole.
Who I'd like to meet: Who are we?
In 1996, Highland Park Players received the Highland Park Mayor’s Award for the Arts. Literally thousands of theatre lovers have benefited from the artistic offerings of Highland Park Players, whether as audience members or as participants on and off stage.
Over the last decade the Players has grown into an established contributor to the cultural life of the North Shore by providing outstanding Broadway musicals. In addition to blockbuster musicals (which have attracted an audience of 300-800 people per performance!), HPP has offered a variety of full-length plays from serious, intellectual, comic, and mysterious.
In 1999, HPP launched our Children’s theatre. These are one-act interactive plays that adults perform for children geared towards ages 3-10. In the past we have performed at the Chicago Botanic Garden where nearly 2,000 people saw Jack and the Beanstalk and Charlotte’s Web.
In the fall of 2002, Highland Park Players celebrated its 15th season. Our production of Big the Musical was a “big” success throughout the entire community. It is a source of pride that over the course of the last decade, Highland Park Players has become one of the most respected community theatres on the North Shore. Each year, HPP attracts new people for its Board of Directors, its productions, and its workshops - people with fresh energy and new ideas that are committed to presenting quality theatre. These past 19 years, HPP has learned the art of theatre, had great fun, remembered wonderful stories and in the process fulfilled our mission: providing high quality theatre to our patrons, involving the community. This fall, our production of Thoroughly Modern Millie represents all the elements of those years coming together in a show we know you will enjoy with your entire family.
Our thanks go to all of you who have participated directly in our productions by performing in or working the shows, taking our workshops, making contributions & donations, or being our appreciative audience. We cannot exist without all of you. When all is said and done, HPP is about people and theatre.
Welcome to our family!!
