Albert Simpson
and
Highly Kind
“Burly and jovial with a bushy beard that dangles a pigtail, Albert Simpson looks
the part of both yesterday and today, and that perfectly captures the spirit of his music.
Simpson writes, sings, and plays guitar for Highly Kind, a young Gadsden, Alabama
band whose members wear southern rock badges with honor, but who also inject the old
genre with newfound vitality.” --Tom Clarke, Elmore Magazine.
Self taught, but inspired by his father, Simpson began playing the guitar at age 12.
Influenced by bands like Little Feat, the Grateful Dead, and the Allman Brothers Band,
Albert joined his first band at age 15. After touring the colleges and couches of the
southern music scene, Highly Kind emerged as Simpson's sole project around 1995.
The faces of the band have changed throughout the years but the music has remained
true to its roots. Focusing mainly on the band, Simpson also performs solo where he
utilizes percussion instruments like the tambourine and a porch board along with the
acoustic guitar.
Johnny Sandlin, who produced great acts like The Allman Brothers Band and
Widespread Panic, brought his expertise to “Don't Wake Albert”, the bands first studio
CD which was released by Rockin' Camel Music. The CD has received raving reviews
in publications such as: Vintage Guitar Magazine, Relix, and Hittin' the Note. It has
even been said that it ranks as one of Johnny's best projects, and parallels his work on
Widespread Panic's landmark second album. Simpson's natural southern voice makes
you believe he is talking directly to you, which creates a heartfelt and truly honest
sound....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Albert plays solo every thursday night at Chestnut Station in Gadsden,al.... and every other wed. night at the Half Shell in troy,al at 7pm and later on that same night at the Front Porch also in troy,al.
