The High Rollers are crazy about red-hot, swingin' hillbilly jazz and traditional rockabilly - and once you've heard these cats, you will be too! If you're a fan of 50s style rockin' music, this is the band for you... these boys really jump and swing - and whether you like to dance or just soak it up, you're sure in for a treat!
Live at The Mustang Bar, Perth Performing "Shotgun Boogie"
Featuring some of Perth's most experienced musicians, this five piece band blends the vocal talents of Andy Burnaway (Convertibles, Rhythm Aces), the dynamic jazzy duo of John Short (Peter Busher's Lone Rangers) on steel and Andy "Jumpin' Jack" Jarvis (Salt Flat Trio, Tornado Alleycats) on guitar, and our swingin' rhythm section - Phil Morgan on double bass and Brian Booy on drums (both also Lone Rangers). If you're lucky, you may also catch the dynamite Lil Miss Coo (Rocket to Memphis' lead singer) gracing us with her sultry vocals! Monday night gigs feature our buddy Neil Bushby on the bass.
Remember, it sure ain't got that thing, if if don't swing!

Review: BIG BEAT OF THE 50s - Sept 2009
From the wild west (of Australia) comes a new album of thirteen tracks from the High Rollin’ Rhythm Kings. It comprises a varied selection of covers and is a fitting follow up to their earlier release Swingin’ It Out: Live At The Mustang Bar, (reviewed in Big Beat 107).
Frontman Andy Burnaway is one of my favourite Australian vocalists, right up there with local contemporaries Hank Ferguson and Vic O’Neill. The current line up also includes Andy Jarvis on lead guitar, John Short on steel, Phil Morgan on double bass and Brian Booy on drums.
The album is reminiscent to me of the music that came from one of my favourite US groups, but now disbanded, Smiths Ranch Boys. The sound is truly western and absolutely infectious; toe-tapping music channelled directly from another, simpler place and time. The music retains a strong hillbilly element throughout, yet branches out into swingin’ romance and backwoods rockabilly.
Speaking of Hank Ferguson, there’s a great cover of Hank’s “Bovine Boogie” on here that he would surely be proud of. The other song that would be well-known from this album is “Viper”, recently recorded by Wayne Hancock, and once again, the version by the High Rollin’ Rhythm Kings has done it justice.
There are so many tracks on this CD that I really enjoy, but there are two that stand out for me above all others: the Bob Wills ballad “Sugar Moon” – because I am a huge Bob Wills fan – and “Country Cattin’”, not just for its boppin’ beat but also for the visual images that it conveys through the lyrics.
The presentation of the disc is nicely done, with cover art in sepia tones to enhance the old-time feel of the project.
I can’t help but envy the Perth locals who get to see these guys perform live on a regular basis. You won’t know what you’re missing until you get your hands on this disc. Visit their MySpace page to hear song samples, and contact the band through the website for CD sales and booking enquiries.

The High Rollin' Rhythm Kings want to say a big thank you to ARRAS for their passion and support of the sounds we all love - Rock n Roll, in all it's wonderful variations: from old time Western Swing, jumpin' R&B and Rockabilly - to today's bands who are doin' it right. Keep the faith cats and kittens!!
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
