On Monday night Asia Society patrons braved the thunder and rain to throw a rockin’ party celebrating the opening of Yoshitomo Nara: Nobody’s Fool. Unlike the somewhat more self-conscious rock shows I usually find myself attending in the trendier parts of town, the audience at this Upper East Side venue was actually dancing. Like really dancing. HIGH TEEN BOOGIE is like fine sake and sword. Straight forward, no bull shit, all Japanese girl trio band with killer tunes and a pure sense of Rock 'n’ Roll. Fast and tough thundering bass and drums, over the edge guitar, and radical lyrics make them more than just another cute girl band. Their influences are classic punk with an undercurrent of boogie and blues and rockabilly.

HIGH TEEN BOOGIE was formed when Nonlee and Yuka first met in 1997 at a sushi party and found out that they had the same taste in music and attitude. Since then, HIGH TEEN BOOGIE has played at CBGB'S, Continental, Webster Hall, and has blazed a trail through the NYC club scene and beyond. Their songs have also appeared on TV’s Comedy Central. With Nonlee on bass, Yuka on guitar, and Hitomi on drums, HIGH TEEN BOOGIE is known for their notoriously fun live shows and is a band that must be seen.
