Hikoikoi are a New Zealand based three piece who blends earthy roots and rich psychedelic rock. The music is an infectious hybrid of soaring melodic vocals, dubbed out dance rhythms and sub-sonic roots vibrations which saw the debut album shot to number 4 on the New Zealand charts. They have opened for the Original Wailers, Groundation and many New Zealand groups such as The Black Seeds and was voted New Zealand hardest working Band in 2010. Hikoikoi have played at many of New Zealand's and Australia's music festivals over the last few years and are branching out into Europe and the USA. Hikoikoi released its self recorded debut album in 2009. It received outstanding reviews, fantastic air play, and was nominated as 'best breakthrough band' at the New Zealand Music Awards. Hikoikoi's live show is renowned for their high energy and passionate resonance with the audience: a show that is not forgotten easily. The heart of their music lies in developing a creative blend of New Zealand roots music with rock. Like the lyrics in the song of their first album Jah Armour attest "maybe your rhythm be black, maybe your rhythm be white, but in the end I know we will unite." Hikoikoi are proud to announce the dates of their European/UK tour for August 2011.
Their debut European tour will see them head straight to Berlin to play at the world’s largest bier garden; the International Berlin Bier Festival. This festival, the largest in the world of its kind, hosts 18 stages of live music and runs 2.2 miles down the Karl-Marx-Allee. This significant coup is hotly followed by Holland’s open air Xniozz Flevo Festival and Muritz’s KulturBuxe and some of the hottest clubs in Europe including Prague, Switzerland and Amsterdam before they head to the UK.
Once in London Hikoikoi are booked to play at London’s infamous One Love Festival, a serendipitous slot after playing One Love in Wellington a few years ago. One Love, in associated with One Love Records is a 3 day outdoor camping festival which brings together 200 acts from across the world and their messages of peace and unity! They then head to the remote and picturesque Jersey Island and Guernsey Island to perform at the fund raising concert Vale Earth Fair.
