Q) What is The Hillbilly Bible?
A) It's a creative renderin' a the gospel a John with a southern twang.

Q) Why did you decide to do The Hillbilly Bible?
A) Well, 1) I'm southern. 2) I like The Bible. 3) I think there is reason to believe that Jesus and probably most of the disciples did, in fact, speak with a country accent.

Q) What purpose does The Hillbilly Bible serve?
A) Well, y'all, my vision is that this little book will be used as an evangelism tool, much like one would use a tract. Secondarily, my prayer is that perhaps it will help folks that are already Christians get to know King Jesus a little better.

Q) Are you a trained theologian?
A) Well, not really, folks. I have some seminary training and a whole lot of personal Bible study, but no academic credentials in the field of theology.

Q) So, what makes you think you are qualified for such an undertaking?
A) Grace. Folks, please understand. The Hillbilly Bible is not a study Bible. It is what it is- kind of a fun way to introduce people to the gospel and maybe give a little insight into Christ, his times, his teachings, his message, and maybe most of all his relationships- especially his relationship to his Father.

Q) Do you plan on doing any other books of the Bible in "hillbilly"?
A) Well, I'm not opposed to it. I'd like to do Galatians, Romans, Proverbs, and Psalms...perhaps some others.

Q) Do you really talk like that?
A) Hee, hee. No, y'all, I don't. "Hillbilly" is a writing voice that I use. I enjoy it and use it almost all the time, because, to me, it's creative and frankly I find writing any other way to be a little boring. Of course, being born and raised in Memphis I do have a southern accent, but nothing to the extent of hillbilly. My dad is from Mississippi, so as child a I did have alot of exposure to folks who talked much like hillbilly.

Q) How do you go about rendering a verse into "hillbilly"?
A) Well, first I read several different versions of the verse, NIV, KJV, NKJV, and NLT to get a good feel for what is actually being said. Then I give it a go. If I'm having a particularly hard time with a verse I'll sort of pray my way through it, and of course, I'm in a lot of just general daily prayer about it anyway.
