Ryan Lochridge - acoustic guitar and vocals, "Chicago Joe" Penley - lead guitar and vocals, Brian "Dirty" Miller - bass and vocals, Danny Stasney - drums
Hill Country Jane began in 2004 with two high school friends, Ryan Lochridge and Chris Cano, writing songs in their garage in Austin, Texas. After a few long nights of throwing ideas around, they had managed to complete 5 new songs. With things progressing as well as they were, the next step was to round up the rest of the players. The guys didn’t have to look very far for the next addition, bassist Brian Miller had moved from Houston to Austin with Ryan in early 2000, but when he heard the new direction things were going in, Brian jumped on board without a second thought. The trio soon started playing anywhere and everywhere they could in and around Austin. Soon after, they added Joe Malloy on drums and began spreading out from Beaumont to Waco, sharing the stage with the likes of Gary P. Nunn, Walt Wilkins, and Charlie Robison among others. In February 2006, some personal issues called for Ryan and Brian to make the move back to Houston. Upon returning to Houston, Ryan met up with some old friends Waylon Gilmore, Danny Stasney, and Jason Kelley who had a local band called The Straight Arrow Band. After a turn of events, Ryan was asked to join up. It only took one show for everyone to realize that the chemistry was there. Less than 24 hours after placing an ad for a lead guitar player, Ryan got a call from a guy with an accent that definitely wasn’t Texan by the name of Joe Penley. Joe was a seasoned veteran, his former band River West had achieved regional success with their song “Texas Remedy” but disbanded. Just as everything seemed to be on the right track, bassist Jason Kelley announced that he’s leaving the band to concentrate on his family and career. Then, in another turn of events, Waylon Gilmore decided to pursue other interests and part with the group. Their musical style has been coined “redneck rock-n-roll”, it is a unique blend of driving country rhythms, and rock guitar bound to turn some heads..
