About me:
Reading Mark’s musical resume shows that he has been involved the Kentucky Roots Music scene for more than 20 years (mostly on the radio side of the equation). He just finished a 5 year stint as co-host of Barren River Breakdown, a weekly two hour show on Western’s Public Radio that explores American Music with Roots. In the 1990’s Mark was SBK’s New Music Marketing Rep for the Rocky Mountain Region. Early in his career, he was the Music Director of WLOC, home of The Chitlin’ Show, which was the career launching pad for The Kentucky Headhunters. Mark has also written numerous articles for music blogs, fanzines and publications.
Long Range Project: Mark is using his corporate background in Business & Marketing to lead a networking group of folks who are interested in exploring the opportunity of bringing a new Public Radio Station to the area dedicated to American Roots Music. In addition to a regular rotation of the artists on the left, the station will feature numerous locally produced specialty shows (possibly including these genres: Roots Rock, Blues, New / Old Timey Music, Vintage Country, Classic Alternative, Jazz…etc) along with syndicated and NPR programming not available in the region now.
Mid Range Project: Mark plans to launch an internet based American Roots show with in the next year. Keep coming back to this page for updates in the blog section above.
On Going Project: Mark recently inherited the music collection of Freeman Kitchens. Freeman was close to the Carter Family and ran the groups fan club for years. The collection includes buckets full of Old Time Country & Blues not commercially available. It took Freeman a lifetime to collect and it will probably time Mark a lifetime to digitize. You can keep posted on the project progress in the blog section above.
We connecting our-space to your-space to accomplish the following: 1) Find new music to play on the show / station, 2) Have an avenue where bands can find us, 3) Host a space where potential underwriters of the show / station can contact us, 4) And a place where future listeners can link to these artists now, see where they are playing and find out how to purchase their recordings.
As a way to say thank you to all of the wonderful artists on out there, we also keep a blog of places to play in our neck of the woods. So if you’re planning a road trip, a couple of these venues may be an option.
If you want to send us some music, mail to: The Radio Guy, 280 Cottontail Circle, Alvaton, KY 42122.
Concert Calendar: Listed below, we try to keep a fairly updated listing of upcoming American Roots Music shows and concerts.
