Himalaya started in 1994 as a quartet. Since the creation several changes in personnel, sound and concept occured but the basic idea : a confrontation of Eastern and Western art and culture has remained.
In the actual project Himalaya brings together music, dance and video.
The music can be described as a combination of Indian raga's (especially the compositions with sitar), jazz, African rhythms, psychedelic rock, folk and more.
Ramasitar plays on an electric sitar prototype. This is a unique instrument specially build for him on his demand by Klaas Janssens & Hari Chand Sharma, who really did a great job!
