I have spent over 25 years learning and teaching about a lot of different subjects - social change, happiness, musical creativity, medical marijuana, environment, food safety and other topics. I really am so thrilled by all the comments and love that so many of you are sharing here. Creativity is really the only hope we have for our society. All of us must work together to save this planet from an untimely death!!


My research and teaching focus on the sixties, hippie counter-culture; as well as the Rastafarian movement. I agree with my friend Vince Hermann (formerly of Leftover Salmon) when he says "things are more like they were back then today than they have ever been." Politically I am working toward a revitalization of the socialist perspective (with Merry Prankster anarchy thrown in).
The world has never been closer to the brink of disaster. The Bush regime must be stopped and the damage reversed (just look at what has NOT been done to clean-up after 9/11 and Hurrican Katrina. It is up to the young people to do that. Most American in my generation are selfish hypocrites. I agree strongly with Eldridge Cleaver that "If you are not of the solution, then you are part of the problem." I love to study and teach about public opinion and social movements. Have designed and conducted them for 25 years. This is one of the many fun and reasonably accurate surveys I have seen on here. I am very interested in understanding and experiencing alternative modes of reality. Over the years I have gone from being raised Catholic to then spending much of my life as agnostic, scientist (with a big ego). Then when Bush took over I got mad and active again. Now I truly feel the spiritual energy that allows us to move mountains and manifest our dreams. We all need to become more creative and tap into the levels of life we often miss. I now realize that spirits of our prophets remain for us to connect with. No other explanation for the fact that I can play music like I do. Thanks to Jerry, Jimi, Bob and many others!!

As a professor I am fortunate that I get paid to think about big things that most people take for granted (meaning of life, happiness, and many other things.) I also am expected to write about them so I can educate people. I view Myspace as a free and fun virtual classroom.

I really love the water - swimming, studying, drinking,.... Grew up playing in creeks near farms. Spent many years as a professor working to keep water clean -- especially trying to stop agricutural pollution . I have been in Raleigh for 18 years (too long in this conservative red state.) In most ways I am much younger now than I have been in year. I did raise two wonderful kids and back to focus on myself (pick up where I left off around 25 :>)


As a college professor I try to guide young people. I need to warn the world about the dangers of alcohol and show how ganjah is a much better alternative. Just ask the Hindus, Buddhists, Native Americans and Muslims. Arch-conservatives in the US started the war on ganja about 70 years ago. The only reason it remains illeagal is that the alcohol and pharmaceutical companies are fighting this competition because they see the writing (they fund the worthless DARE program.)



In addition to my analysis of the sixties counterculture in the US, I am studying the sociological and anthropological research on the Rastafarian movement. I consider myself to be a Neo-Rasta and am working to spread that movement. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh are among my spiritual master and musical mentor. As a result I am entitled to smoke ganjah as a sacred herb.



I enjoy life A LOT and strive to create happiness for myself and others. My life has been transformed over the past five years to where I am in a wonderful space (physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally). I am originally from Chicago and did all my education in the upper midwest. I was married to a wonderful woman for 25 years, but we grew in different directions and are now each happier. We raised two amazing kids. My daughter is 24 and graduated college in business. Son is 26 and my best friend in many ways.

Dr Tom adds -- Actually, the immediate cause of Jimi's death was suffocation by his own vomit - he had been DRINKING hard that night and fell asleep on his back. BTW, booze was also the main cause of death for both Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin. Sure had NOTHING to do with Ganjah!!
