Mommas Hip Hop Kitchen Volume 2: The Soup Kitchen for the Hip Hop Soul.

This year Mommas Hip Hop Kitchen is bringing you a powerful collaboration presenting CASA Atabex Ache. Together we are putting on A Womyn of Color’s Response to Faith, Feminism and Hip Hop.

Casa Atabex Ache is a healing & social justice organization located in the South Bronx, supporting young & adult womyn of color, immigrant, working class, lgbtq, youth, activist, organizers and artist in ending violence in their lives, mind, body and spirit. They provide an array of programs that have spirituality, cultura and human rights at the core including healing circles, peer support groups, womyn of color healing retreats and alternative medicine. Their programs are aimed at helping womyn express and address issues of anger,fear, and self hate. Most of these issues resulting from life experiences of sexual truama, domestic violence,relationship abuse, insitutional racism and other forms of oppression, breaking down self guilt, self blame and isolation. CASA seeks to liberate the "Spirit" of womyn so they can be self determined, sustainable, and their most empowered self.

Mommas Hip Hop Kitchen is highlighting CASA at this years event. We are committed to support the sustainability of womyn of color organizations in the South Bronx and NYC. Our goal and hope is to raise some much needed support to make sure that organizations like this continue to exist.

The South Bronx is the birthplace of Hip Hop, and the poorest congressional district in the nation where negative statistics on women are staggering. The South Bronx is also a community filled with churches, botanicas full of spiritual elements, undercover curanderas and healers that constantly provide images that reflect their racial and cultural heritage. For generations, immigrant families tap into music and art in order to stay rooted to their homelands and survive their displacement. Behind closed doors, families keep praying to their ancestors, deities and saints. When family members are ill, or when disasters strike, they call upon their powers by creating the most beautiful of altars for praying, giving thanks, lighting candles and manifesting their dreams.
