"Shelley-Lynne is Naughty and Delicious" Quote by Sugar Blue
Her Fans Call Her Just the Right Amount Of Too Much!!!
When I'm Good, I'm Bad and when I'm Bad I'm at my Best!!!
Shelley-Lynne was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. As a very young child she remembers that all she wanted to do was sing. Her mom would sing to her, along with her siblings every night after story time and she thought it was the most beautiful sound on earth. She used to tell herself that if she could sing then she was sure could do anything!
By the time she was six she knew this was going to be her path. She went to a music driven elementary school in Sherwood Park, Alberta. There she sang, played many instruments, toured with her school choir and made records. It was the 70s and she credits her very gifted and talented music teachers, Mrs. Rita Walkeruk and Mrs. Georgina Thurgood for introducing her to Jazz, Blues, Celtic, Folk, Country, West Indian and Pop Music. At home she listened to her father’s records which included George Jones, Johnny Cash, Lynn Anderson, Tanya Tucker and Elvis Presley.
By 14 her piano teacher, Mr. Bob Harrison would sneak her in to his gigs so she could sing with his band. At 16 she fronted her first teenage rock band in Vegreville, Alberta called Lust! She says she didn't even know what the name meant when she started singing with them. She now wonders where her parents were and what they were thinking?. After grade twelve she went onto post secondary music studies, graduating in Vocal Performance. It was there she met her husband; a fellow musician and today still making music with her.
They moved to London, England and her lessons from Tommy Banks regarding the quick and dirty curb side methods of arranging music really came into importance! Her greatest musical moment was working with foreign musicians. They couldn't communicate verbally, in English, but music was the understood language.
Shelley has sung it all: Gospel, Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, and even Italian Opera! She has always loved the Blues the most. Now it’s nothing but the Blues! From London, England to Mexico they call her Canada’s Hip Shakin’ Mama. She says that her ultimate joy as a Blues Singing Woman has been working with Gerry Perkin and the Majestics Blues Band based out of Brandon, Manitoba.
Shelley-Lynne is enjoying her reign as one of Manitoba's Women In Blues. She is preparing for the recording of Women In Blues Manitoba DVD sometime in the new year. There are more Women of the Blues here in Manitoba and each special Diva is bringing her own originals to this party. You won't want to miss it! She promises to be there once again with a beer in her cleavage!
Shelley-Lynne is recording her first all original CD right now. She wrote most of the songs herself on her antique red sofa and a few others were co-written with Kathy Kennedy, Gerry Perkin and her husband/bass player, Richie. She has promised a whole lotta naughty with a few serious Blues songs to share some of the unique sides of Shelley-Lynne
She will be traveling to Mazatlan, Mexico again this winter from January 22 - January 30th to perform at Canucks in Mazatlan and take in the margaritas, jumbo shrimp, the shopping, the history, the architecture and the adoration of the cabana boys who are waiting to serve her once again!
