The desire to remain independant - even from most of the so-called 'independant' labels and their distributers. Eugene Chadbourne inspired me to start this venture by his own efforts in the same direction.
HIPSHOT RECORDS was founded by MIKE COOPER in 1999 initially to release his own solo works of new and archive recordings. An artists run from profit label.
Recorded and mastered in my studio 'The Steelworks', in Rome, a signed and numbered limited edition series of c.d.r's. hand-packaged with great covers and available only from me via post, or at concerts.

The first release on the label was KIRIBATI which initiated a series of AMBIENT ELECTRONIC EXOTICA which includes GLOBE NOTES and RAYON HULA which won an honorary mention at the ARS ELECTRONICA DIGITAL ARTS competition.
RAYON HULA was also released as a double ten inch vinyl l.p. on CABIN RECORDS.
