"Bass Trombone in Other Styles - Jazz Rock: A nice example of a Superbone (valve/slide combo trombone) that emulates the bass trombone by playing in the low register can be found in Hired Geeks @ "Proridiculous."" - The Non-Classic Bass Trombone by Eliezer Aharoni (Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra)
"Hired Geeks are a band in constant evolution with a revolutionary sound that makes the listener think about the music, it is truly literature for your ears" - DJ Jess @ WIPZ Radio 88.5 FM
"These guys hail from Kenosha with an original and upbeat ska sound. Every song on their disc has that catchy backbeat that ska is so famous for. But for once there is something different coming out of Kenosha. 'Charity' has a creepy ska sound to it that caught me off guard. 'Spank' brings an in your face ska-rock sound to the table. Check these guys out, they rock." - Lucas J. Keller, columnist, www.milwaukeerocks.com, Milwaukee's Rock 102.1 FM
"Hired Geeks - Taking my ears to the next musical level! (Level 2)" - Rob Kleiner, Tub Ring
For the last 8 years, Hired Geeks have been a staple in the midwest ska and experimental rock scenes, intriguing audiences with their offbeat rhythms, key changes, and unorthodox yet catchy songwriting. Hired Geeks formed in the fall of 2000, with many of the members working together as early as 1995. They intricately blend touches of jazz, metal, progressive, funk, new wave and reggae; and apply classical-modern musical ideas such as polytonalism and polyrhythmics to rock and ska.
Hired Geeks have perfected an intense original sound and a kaleidoscopic live act showcasing the mastery of their unconventional instruments: 6-string slap and tap bass, the Superbone (valve/slide combo trombone), and the Clock and Trigger guitar. The recent addition of math-metal, funk, and jazz influenced drummer Brendon Thomas, combined with the switch of the former drummer Dan Schlicht to trombone, has brought an intense new energy to live shows and tightened up their sound tremendously.
Touring extensively throughout the midwest and into the east coast, Hired Geeks have shared the stage with national acts such as Les Claypool, Mindless Self Indulgence and Tub Ring, as well as ska legends The Toasters, Mustard Plug, and The Skatalites. Hired Geeks played in the first and second "Ska Is Dead" tours (with Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Big D & the Kids Table, The Planet Smashers, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Streetlight Manifesto, and MU330), and performed at the renowned annual ska fest "Skappleton" for the last 6 years. The Geeks have teamed up with former Toasters and Pilfers front man Coolie Ranx for a soon to be released single entitled "Schwipe." Rob Kleiner of Tub Ring recently produced the Geeks' single, "Here We Are", for their music video due out late 2008.
