* People have been wearing glasses for about 700 years.
* In 1920 for the first time in recorded history, the average life expectancy of human beings exceeded that of goldfish!!!. Before that year, a newborn infant could expect to live 48.4 years. For many species of wild goldfish, the projected life span was over 50.
* Louis XIX was King of France from breakfast until tea-time on 2 August 1830, at which point he abdicated.
* The first country to abolish the death sentence was Austria, in 1787.
* The shortest war there has ever been was between Britain and Zanzibar during 1896. It lasted for a pathetic 38 minutes.
* At the height of inflation in Germany in the early 1920s, one U.S. dollar was equal to 4 quintillion German marks!!! That's 1 dollar = 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 German Marks!

Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8 pm local time until 9 pm to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions.
It is promoted by World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF), an environmental lobby group, and the Sydney Morning Herald. The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney, Australia between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm on 31 March 2007. The 2007 Earth Hour is estimated to have cut Sydney's mains electricity consumption by between 2.1% and 10.2% for that hour, with as many as 2.2 million people taking part. A second Earth Hour, in 2008, is planned to be an international event held in Sydney, many partner cities, and individuals around the world participating.
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.
To mark the moment, please turn off all your lights and unused appliances at the switch at exactly 8 pm for one hour.
We can sacrifice just one hour that can make a difference for everyone, can’t we?
Thanks so much in helping make Earth Hour a huge global event and enjoy your hour of darkness.
