People like to read about the legends. They print the legends. Legends are lies. You make something a legend, then you make it something beyond you, something you can’t do. But you can. There’s no legend to punk rock. We were all just doing it. You can have punk rock now. Just got to do it. Fuck the legend. Pedro punk was practical punk. It wasn’t ‘legendary’ punk. We worked and paid our bills. Living at home with your mother was an insult in blue-collar world. We made noise, had fun, tried to live loud, but we kept our jobs. Pedro punk was workingman’s noise.

FEBRUARY 17, 1979 - FIRST PUNK GIG IN SAN PEDRO, CA. This was the Descendents and the Reactionaries (not listed) first punk gig and Black Flag's second. The Last played a couple of songs too with Flag's equipment. Pretty Historic night in beautiful rundown San Pedro. Thanks Pettibon ...
The WIgs only put out that single I'm pretty sure. I know they never released a full lp. THey might have had more than one 7 inch. I met the Wigs when they first moved to Pedro. Back then it was so easy to meet people b/c there were so few of us punkers. If you saw anyone with short hair, you were instantly comrades.
Did the WiGS ever release a full-length LP? I've had their "Stiff Me" single forever... I've always loved that song! I would love to get ahold of more of their music.
What a trip. I never thought I'd see the day... Very cool seeing some of these people are still kicking. Brinson, Luis, John, Richie, Jimmy, Alma, Mike, Aaron, Raenie, etc. Hey what about Rachel from M.O.D.? Always wondered what happened to her. She lived next door to the Wilder's I think...
dude i lost your number, things have been a bit of an upside down mess for a minute (new house crap) how's the book coming? talk to ya soon. xoxox~kara
Mike Martt (Funeral) and Stevo from the Vandals. We went to a party in San Pedro (LANDS ENDS APARTMENTS) and the people threw us out. We had poured cooking oil on the floor and turned out the lights, so people were sliding all over the place. I found a firehose and soaked the apartment. I was a scrawny guy trying to hold this firehose which was pitching me all over the place. Stevo had their toilet plunger and was saying 'I command you to stop by power of my royal magic septre'. People were running screaming getting blasted by the water. Some guy ran out of his apartment with a baseball bat from the other side of the complex yelling at me. I turned around to see who was yelling at me and the water from the hose blasted him back into his apartment. Another guy was passed out on a lawn chair by the pool. I sprayed him off the chair and he rolled into the pool. Stevo was laughing at me trying control this fire hose. I finally lost complete control of the hose and we both ran as the unmanned hose wildly whipped about spraying the complex." Needless to say we all had to move out.
First Ken(with the 70's van) Pedro, then Cristy/Crusty took me to my first gigs. Hey, y'all there's a story on about my meeting Gary Kail for first time at a Longshoreman's hall gig on my myspace blog. It could bring back memories...
OMG!! I was reviewing your contact list and saw Cristy Crusty's name on there. Sheesh, she and I used to jam at her mom's apt in the Pedro projects. I also went up to jam w/ her and Dinah Cancer in Hollywood. I forget the band they had put together at the time. What a trip.
BTW, I see that you interviewed Jimmy (S)Mack. He and I go way back to when we were doing theater in the early 70's. If you have a way to get in touch with him I would appreciate it!
