Pianist & Composer Hitoshi Kanda is a native of Nagoya, Japan;
He began his classical piano studies at the age of four. In January 2002, he entered Berklee College of Music. He graduated "Summa Cum Laude" from Berklee in Performance Major in 2004. He moved to New York after graduating from Berklee.
In 2005, he participated in recording as a member of “Nobuki Takamen Group” "Bull’s Blues" (What’s New Records in 2006) and also, has performed at the “Rochester International Jazz Festival” as a pianist of the group on June 2007. In 2008, he recorded to Nobuki’s second album “FROM NOW ON” (What’s New Records in 2008). He also had been touring Japan once every year from 2006 to 2009.
In addition, he has been performing as a keyboardist of “Yaz Band” at subway stations (MUNY) and numerous venues in NY since April 2006. In September 2008, he had performed for the promotional event, the new album “Dig Out Your Soul” of British world-famous group “OASIS”. It has been appeared on New York Post’s website and also, he has appeared on NHK (Japanese national TV), Fuji TV and the feature article of Asahi Shimbun.
He has participated other recordings, which is “white lilac” of Hide Inaba, PD1140 (own group: music of video installation) in NY, 2006 and “Compilation Album vol.2 color primitivo” (Happiness Records) in Tokyo, 2000. On the other hand, he had written music column of "Meito Jazz Club" in Nagoya, Japan from April 2006 to March 2009.
End of March 2009, he moved to Japan. On July 2009, he performed at the "Montreal Jazz Festival" in Canada and the "Iridium Jazz Club" in NY as a member of Nobuki Takamen Group.
2006年6月リリースのギタリスト高免信喜氏のデビューアルバム “Bull’s Blues” (What's New Records) に参加。このグループで2007年6月、NYのローチェスターインターナショナルジャズフェスティバルで演奏し好評を得た。2008年10月発売の高免氏2枚目のアルバム“FROM NOW ON” (What's New Records) にも参加。2006〜2009年まで毎年このグループで日本全国ツアーに参加し日本でも好評を博す。その他にDJのコンピレーションアルバム "Color Primitivo"、阿部渉氏とのグループで映像音楽やNYで活動中のシンガーソングライター (Hide Inaba) のアルバム "white lilac" のピアニストとしてCDがリリースされた。
他の主な活動では2006年4月から高木靖之氏率いるYaz BandのキーボードプレーヤーとしてNYの地下鉄駅構内 (MUNY) や数々のクラブ、フェスティバル (Music Under NY Jazz Festival) で演奏。このグループでの活動はNYのラジオ局 (WQCD)、NHK、フジTV、テレビ朝日等で放映され、2009年1月、朝日新聞夕刊1面でインタビューが掲載された。2008年9月、世界的有名なイギリスのロックグループ、オアシス (OASIS) のニューアルバム “Dig Out Your Soul” のプロモーションでオアシスと共演、その模様をニューヨークポスト紙ウェブサイトやドキュメンタリーフィルムが世界中に放映された。演奏活動に限らず、地元名古屋の名東ジャズ倶楽部でコラムを2006〜2009年まで3年間執筆した。2009年4月より活動拠点を日本へ移す。2009年7月、カナダのモントリオールジャズフェスティバルとNYのイリジウム (Iridium Jazz Club)に出演。
