Lately I've been listening to a bunch of TEXAS music, Townes, Willie, Billy Joe Shaver, SRV , James McMurtry. James' song 'Can't make it here anymore' is so damn good and so damn true these days.
I've also been trying to keep up with what's current in Nashville radio wise as well as what's flying just under the radar. There's some great stuff out there. Can't say for sure if any of this is "influencing" me, but it sure as hell is motivating me to up my game.

I've been a professional musician, a farmer, I've been a martial arts instructor..hell, I even had a job once peeling bananas at the original whole foods market in Austin, way back when. The one constant for me has always been music. It's an amazing blessing to be able to turn life's twists and turns into songs.
I write country, alt-country, americana, blues and rock kind of songs.
I've been at this since I was about 8 years old and I'll do it until I'm in the ground. Lately, I've had the enormous pleasure of working with some truly gifted co-writers and producers that I now count as good friends. What a great adventure! One of these days you're going to hear my songs coming out of your radio, until then you can hear 'em right here
Stay tuned...it's about to get interesting.
Just sending some "Aloha" your way!!!
I Hope all is well in your world!!!
Much Mahalos and make it a good one!!!

Your songwriting is great! I love the examples you have posted, here!
As a songwriter, I'm interested in your song craft. You've done well!

Hey Don, Hope you have an awesome Christmas on Hawai'i. Cant' wait to get back over there! Let's write us another one next summer. Thanks for the comment and Aloha! Much Mahalo, Jeff
Hey Don, I came across you through the NSAI forums. Hawaii is our favorite getaway from Alaska. I'll have to holler at ya next time we're there - I'd love to do some pickin' with you. I don't know if it's because of my own Texas roots, but I love your sound - it would be fun to see what we could come up with together. Are you going to make it to the KMF this year? We are making plans - hopefully they work out!
Don May - Join us in congratulating record producer Kim Copeland for her work on the Rachel Williams album, Lonely At The Bottom. Check this great review by R.K. Oermann with Music Row Magazine on Rachel's current single, The Only Thing Harder Than Leaving.
"She has the goods. This creeps up on you with cat’s paws. The languid pace, echoing instruments, spacious production and her hushed, aching delivery are all immensely seductive. The lyric of leaving home is full of terrific details. And her falsetto leaps in the bridge are like little daggers to the heart. A mini masterpiece. This, by the way, is the third single in a row that I have raved about from this performer. "
Aloha buddy! I'm monster homesick. Writing here on the mainland has gone really well though. I'll be back this week. In Honolulu next weekend but then back to our island by mid week. Hugs, Mary :)
