Hey All!!
I'm HJ, guitarist and song-writer in Nemesea.
The following text will contain some info about me for those who are interested.
Pop/ Rock music has always been the main thing for me, when I look back I notice I always liked Pop/ Rock stuff best.
Michael Jackson is my biggest and first musical hero, absolutely, the Thriller and Bad albums are my favorite albums ever!
I grew up listening to Michael although Lot's won't recognize his and Quincy's influence on my music. I still think Michael is THE KING of POP, despite all the bullshit said and written about him which I don't believe anyway.
If I could pick one artist to meet and work with it would be Michael Jackson.
Oh uh, Janet would be cool to ;-)
After that I got more into Rock, Rock took over the Pop thing a little bit.
Ozzy/ Van Halen/ Iron Maiden and Skid Row were my favo's at that time. Because of these bands I got into guitar playing a little, I started listening to guitar and really liked the riffs and solo's.
Inspired by this music and my brother Remko I picked up the guitar when I was 17 or 18 years old.
I was "affected" by the guitar virus from that moment on and i'm still trying to become really good at it.
I started off as a Rock oriented player influenced by Jimi Hendrix/ Yngwie/ Richie Kotzen/ Randy Rhoads/ Jason Becker/ Joe Satriani and Paul Gilbert.
When I reached the age of 20 I went to the Conservatory to study guitar/ music.
During my education I discovered Lot's of cool Jazz players such as Wes Montgomery/ Django Reinhardt/ Pat Metheny and the great sax players like Charlie Parker and John Coltrane.
I got into Fusion music as well and Scott Henderson/ Allan Holdsworth/ Frank Gambale and , here he is again, Richie Kotzen can be considered having a heavy influence on my playing all though I always tried to get/ have my own style.
Also Blues became an important music style for me, players like Albert King/ Steve Ray Vaughn/ B.B. King/ T-Bone Walker and Eric Clapton are some of my favorite players.
I always played and liked acoustic guitar and I particularly like Al Di Meola/ John Mclaughlin/ Sylvain Luc/ Bireli Lagrene stuff and Flamenco players like Paco De Lucia/ Vicente Amigo.
My biggest influence on acoustic playing is the Gypsy Jazz/ Gypsy Swing style of playing, Django Reinhardt/ Stochelo Rosenberg/ Rosenberg Trio/ Bireli Lagrene, I really dig that stuff!
I'm playing in a Gypsy Trio called Trio Nuages ( named after the famous Django tune Nuages ) and we are working on an album.

I like Lot's and Lot's of bands/ artists, too much to mention but a few important ones are Linkin Park/ Chick Corea (Electric Band)/ Tower of Power/ The Prodigy/ Van Halen/ Dream Theater/ Rammstein/ Korn/ Meshuggah/ Red Hot Chilli Peppers/ Evanescence/ Racer X/ Cacophony/ Tribal Tech/Jamiroquai/ Kelly Clarkson/ Vertical Horizon/ Avril Lavigne/ Justin Timberlake etc. etc. and the list goes on and on.
A few years ago I got into Dj's/ Trance/ Dance music. I really like the sounds and flow in this music style. It started off listening to The Prodigy. Then I discovered Dj's like Paul van Dyk/ Tiesto/ Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten.
When I finished my education I started with Nemesea and got into songwriting.
The thing is that I feel and think, no matter the style, the SONG has to be really good.
I needs good melodies/ harmonies/ rhythms/ feel and timing, those are very important to me. Although I have theoretical knowledge because of my music education i don't really use it when I'm writing or playing, I want to feel the music.
My main band is Nemesea.
For Nemesea i do the song-writing and play guitar.
With Manda, Sonny and Steven I found my favourite group of people/ musicians and want to play with them as long as possible. This just feels right and I can do both things, write and play guitar, what more can I wish for.
