About The Hong Kong Blood Opera A.K.A. Los Cancelados
The Hong Kong Blood Opera se formó a mediados el año 2006 en Hermosillo, Sonora como una evolución de proyectos anteriores de los integrantes como la banda hardcore “The Noise Cabaret” (2005 – 2006) y la experimental “…En la Orilla de la Utopía” (2003 – 2005), ambas conformadas por la mayoría de los miembros actuales de THKBO.
La banda cuenta con 2 producciones, su EP debut “The Critical Paparazzi” (Noiselab [MX] – Septiembre 2007) y 2 años después lanza su primer larga duración titulado “Not For The Faint Of Heart” (Intolerancia [MX] / Recreation [UK] – Octubre 2009).
The HKBO lleva a cabo constantes giras y shows en vivo durante 2007 y 2009, entre los que destacan el Festival Reeperbahn en Hamburgo, Alemania (Septiembre 2008) obteniendo una gran respuesta y siendo la única banda mexicana invitada al festival al lado de bandas como Nada Surf, Crystal Castles, Sahara Hotnights, entre otros; el festival internacional de música, cine y multimedia South by Southwest 2008 en Austin, Texas donde hacen 2 shows con éxito en stages internacionales; son headliners en el Santos Party House de New York City como parte de una fiesta de la revista Vice en Junio de 2008 compartiendo stage con Vivian Girls y The Muslims; se presentan en vivo en un evento de Debaser en la ciudad de Malmö, Suecia (Octubre 2008) al lado de Punch and Judy, teniendo un gran recibimiento; el mismo mes realizan un par de shows en Londres, Inglaterra en el Purple Turtle de Camden y la fiesta semanal Death Disco del productor inglés Alan Mcgee en el Nothing Hill Arts Club; han sido teloneros en la Ciudad de México de bandas como los Black Lips en la fiesta de release de Vice Mexico (Julio 2008), AFI en el Salón 21 (Abril 2007) y The Hives en el Palacio de los Deportes (Diciembre 2008); forman parte de festivales importantes en México como el MX Beat de Puebla (Marzo 2007) al lado de DJ Mehdi, Whitest Boy Alive, entre otros, el Festival Motorockr en el Foro Sol de DF (Octubre 2007) abriendo el main stage a bandas como Incubus y The Killers, y el festival Música para los Dioses en las Pirámides de Teotihuacán (Marzo 2009) al lado de Maldita Vecindad, Babasónicos, El Otro Yo, entre otros; son cabeza del Festival de Música de Sinaloa junto con Descartes a Kant (Junio 2008) haciendo 2 shows en Culiacán y Los Mochis; así como las Fiestas del Pitic en Hermosillo (Mayo 2008); en Diciembre de 2008 realizan un mini-tour acompañados de las bandas Maniquí Lazer (Mexicali) y Soft Fangs (LA) en el Norte del país y un showcase de la disquera Deafrow en la ciudad de Los Ángeles, California; también se han presentado en todo tipo de shows alrededor de la república mexicana en ciudades como Tijuana, Mexicali, Monterrey, DF, Guadalajara, Puebla, Hermosillo, Mérida, Xalapa, León, Villahermosa, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Cancún, Campeche, Querétaro, Ciudad Obregón, Guaymas, San Luis Río Colorado, Cholula, Pachuca, Zacatecas, Morelia, entre otras; a partir de Octubre de 2009 el grupo presenta su primer LP en su ciudad natal estado de Sonora para después ser invitados por Recreation Records al show de lanzamiento de su disquera en Manchester, UK, y estarán presentándose en los legendarios venues Hope and Anchor, Underworld y el Dublin Castle, entre otros lugares de Londres, UK, así como también el 7 de Noviembre en el Lades Kælder de Copenhagen, Dinamarca.
The Hong Kong Blood Opera was formed in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora in the year 2006 as a result of former projects, such as the hardcore band "The Noise Cabaret" (2005-2006) and the experimental "... En La Orilla De La Utopía" (2003-2005), both bands integrated by most of the current members of THKBO.
The band has 2 recordings, debut EP “The Critical Paparazi” (Noiselab [MX] – September 2007) and 2 years later released their first full-lenght “Not For The Faint Of Heart” (Intolerancia [MX] / Recreation [UK] – October 2009).
The HKBO has been constantly and relentlesly touring from 2007 to 2009, performing in important venues and festivals such as the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Germany (September 2008) being the only mexican act on the festival next to bands like Nada Surf, Crystal Castles, Sahara Hotnights, among others; South by Southwest 2008 in Austin, Texas, performing succesfully in two international stages; were headliners in a Vice showcase at New York City (June 2008), alongside Vivian Girls and The Muslims; performed with great success at Malmö, Sweden in Debaser alongside Punch and Judy (October 2008) and in the same month did a couple of shows in London, UK, one in Camden’s Purple Turtle and also in Alan McGee’s weekly party “Death Disco” at the Nothing Hill Arts Club; The HKBO has performed as an opening act in Mexico City for the Black Lips (Vice Mexico’s release party Jul 2008), AFI (April 2007), The Hives (Dec 2008); also being a part of important festivals in Mexico like MX Beat, Motorockr (opening the main stage for Incubus and The Killers), Música para los Dioses in Teotihuacán Pyramids (March 2009); headlining with Descartes a Kant in Sinaloa’s Music Festival (Jun 2008) and Fiestas del Pitic in Hermosillo (Mayo 2008); touring with Maniquí Lazer (Mxcli) and Soft Fangs (LA) in north mexico and a showcase for Deafrow Records in Los Angeles, CA (Dec 2008); The HKBO has played several shows in various cities like Tijuana, Mexicali, Monterrey, DF, Guadalajara, Puebla, Hermosillo, Mérida, Xalapa, León, Villahermosa, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Cancún, Campeche, Querétaro, Ciudad Obregón, Guaymas, San Luis Río Colorado, Cholula, Pachuca, Zacatecas, Morelia, etc; as of October 2009 the band releases its first LP and does the proper release shows in their hometown state of Sonora, and then performing in Recreation Records’s label release showcase in Manchester, UK, where the band’ll be also performing in several important London venues like the Underworld, Hope and Anchor, Dublin Castle, among others, as well as a show at Lades Kælder in Copenhagen, Denmark.
