Books
Currently reading:
"Everything is illuminated"
Jonathan Safran Foer
Seeing as I'm attempting to work on my sentence structure for college level classes, perhaps not the best thing for me to be reading. And so it may need to be put aside for a bit. But otherwise, seems to be amusing enough, and its already diverting from the film which I'm both excited , and nervous about; as I adore the film. The 3 different style narratives, with one of the narratives touching upon the other two, is however going to take some getting used to.
Recently finished:
"The Catcher in the Rye"
J. D. Salinger
Interesting. Like reading one long drunken ramble. A unique peek into 1940's life. I must confess that I did start counting how many times the word 'Goddamn' was used, and also keeping track of how often something depressed Holden. If you're wondering, about every 2 paragraphs. Or, once per page.
"Sphere"
Michael Crichton
I read it to answer some questions I had about the movie. Only to find, the book doesn't cover the scenes I had questions about. Like the previous books I have read from Mr. Crichton, I often feel he gets too into 'technical speak' as a way of waving around his intellectual prowess. I only say this because it usually has nothing to do with the story. In the end: It was alright. If you've seen the movie, don't bother with the book.
"Speaker of the dead"
Orson Scott Card
A brilliant follow up to "Ender's game". Even though I had trouble wrapping my mind around the piggies as anything other than wild porky pigs. Well worth the read. And definitely worth a reread.
"Foundation"
Issac Asimov
I didn't think I would like Asimov. Really I didn't. But I found out why he is one of the quintessential sci-fi writers. He does successfully (as in I don't want to gouge my eyes out a chapter in) what so many of his genre can't seem to be able to achieve. Write politics without putting you to sleep. And now I also know where the encyclopedia galaxia ("Hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy") originated from. Again, worth a reread.
"Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell"
Susanna Clarke
I did NOT like the end, and was fairly pissed off about it to be honest. But, despite its rambling, lackadaisical style, when I was done with it, I can honestly say it was like losing a good friend. I missed it. I'm just not sure if I missed it enough to put myself through it again.
And misc other compilations, both of old short stories, occurrences of the 'paranormal', and field guides to plant identification.
Heroes
Martha Stewart for showing me there is no shame in engaging in 'womanny tasks', turning them into an empire, and eventually going to jail for it. Catwoman for showing me that women can still be sexy yet kick a guy's ass. Lucille Ball for showing the world that women can be funny too. Lili Munster, for those silver streaks; and all the other women who came before me who worked so hard, and sacrificed so much so that I could be doing what I am today.
Who I'd like to meet: The odd, the strange, and the disaffected. Lolligaggers, and gadabouts.
Those on the outskirts who can't seem to find that inner fold.
Dreamers dancing through life.
Delinquents with purpose and visionaries who have temporarily forgotten thiers.
Those who have had the words: Can't, won't, or shouldn't spewed at them and completely ignored them.
I'm constantly looking for new artists of all sorts, so if I've added you and you don't know why.....that's probrably why.
If you're promoting your new show or thing, that's just peachy, but I don't enjoy seeing my entire bulletin board full of multiple posts about it several days in a row. That's just tacky and will get you baleeted.
Same goes for posting 'flyers' in the comments page. Unless you're paying, I'm not here for your adspace.

Perhaps drinks are in order in the near future? A double date even.... like they did during the Cold War.
