The name Hoa Trang An means "Ancient Flower of Hanoi," a fitting moniker for this elegant ensemble of five breathtakingly skilled and passionate young women performing the traditional music of Vietnam.
Hoa Trang An was founded in 1996 by Thanh Dan, inspired by the deep love for traditional music that she shares with the other members of the ensemble. Since then, they have performed their powerfully feminine arrangements of Vietnamese folk music in China, Thailand, Japan, and Germany, in addition to frequent performances at home in Vietnam. Though based in Hanoi, Hoa Trang An performs music from all corners of their homeland, representing the rich palette of musical styles indigenous to Vietnam.
The first studio recordings of their music will be released in late 2006 on the nonprofit CreatioNation / Earthville label, with a special guest appearance from Vietnamese virtuoso Nguyen Ngoc Khanh. Their music will also be featured in the upcoming film, Lotus and Lightning. Proceeds from the CD and the film will support village development projects in Vietnam, as well as supporting music and the arts.
The members of Hoa Trang An hope you enjoy their music.
Just dropping by to say that in celebration of the rare Ancient Future Guitar-Sitar Jugalbandi show March 31, 2007, at Northern California's Larkspur Cafe Theatre, we have finally added our fourth myspace song: a live version of the song Socha Socha from the Planet Passion CD that was recorded for the Echoes Radio Living Room Concert Series. For a limited time only, we are offering it as a free download. It's not available on iTunes or any other download site, and it will be removed on April 1, so download it while you can. Hope you enjoy this gift to our myspace friends!
Congratulations. You are featured in Ancient Future's current Top 8 Friends Theme: Southeast Asian Traditions and Influences! We wanted to honor your fantastic work.
