Influences
The Libertines, The Coral, Oasis, The La's, Milburn, The Paddingtons, Shaggy. Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and the man who invented Custard Creams. The man who invented jammy dodgers is up there like but not quite a massive influence. Other worthy contenders to be in this particular section: THE WOLFMAN (Gladiators) LADBROOKES MARGO www.victorchandler.com REDTUBE MINI COOPER'S ISTANBUL COLD BUDWEISER RICKENBACKER ANN SUMMERS
'The Lane consist of 4 skinny little runts who write infectious melodies and stomping beats. In the 18 months since the band was formed, there have been gigs, there have been tales, there have been fights and there have been ales. There has also been a very positive response from the crowds of Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, London and the hometown of Evesham.
On stage the lads create a fusion of noise and presence summed up beautifully by Jims Mum as quite simply ' A RACKET'. Although citing influences are often the first dig of a grave for most bands, the sounds of The Coral, The Strokes, The La's and The View have been used in reviews and comments from some fans. Although this cant be a bad thing, the lads clearly like people to make their own minds up on their sound.
"If people like our sound, then boss, if they dont then they can do one and go back shopping in Waitrose..." Andy (May 2007, BBC WM)
With a singer originally from the North West, the band met in Evesham through playing 5 aside with jumpers for goalposts pretending to be Robbie Fowler or Dalian Atkinson, then later going to Libertines and Oasis gigs all over the country. After a few jamming sessions and having absolutley fuck all else to do in the delight of Evesham, the band was formed.
Hoden Lane continue to play all over the UK and have graced stages from The Cavern and The Barfly in Liverpool, to The Hope And Anchor in London. The lane reguarly play all around the Midlands from The Jug of Ale in Birmingham to the Two Pigs at Cheltenham. Main highlights so far have been supporting signed bands such as The Rifles in front of a packed crowd at The Gloucester Guildhall, opening for The Enemy and The Blueskins aswell as having the pleasure to perform with the legendary Buzzcocks, again to a packed crowd at The Guildhall. In the words of Pete Townshend Hoden Lane are always looking to gig 'anyway anyhow anywhere'!
A first 3 track demo was recorded in the Summer 2006 and the second in December 2006. In 2007, Andy Kelly came on board the Lane wagon to record, produce and mix all our recordings aswell as kindly act as our sound engineer. New material is constantly being written amongst gigging whenever they can..Please get in touch if you want any more info or would like us to play for you
'Tied of hearing i will never be someone,
Working all day nine till five it aint much fun!'
Try and catch one of the shows and see what all the fuss is about!
""Supporting a band on the comeback trail must be a pretty thankless task, really. I wonder if getting the support slot on the latest Buzzcocks tours is a particularly good gig, I suspect not. Aging punks are not a particularly demanding or indeed sharp audience and there’s little chance to impress anyone who still has their own hair.
Still, a gig’s a gig, I suppose, which is how up-and-coming yobs Hoden Lane seemed to approach last week’s Buzzcocks gig at the Guildhall, resisting temptations to whack up the sound, they jogged through a tight, energetic and defiantly poppy set. As it turned out, they were the best thing on the night.
Hoden Lane are yer classic rhythm-lead-base-drums four-piece based in Evesham, (despite singer Andy’s Scouse tones) who play fast and feisty. Although, the band site modern bands such as Oasis, Milburn and the Libertines as their main influences, there are clearly one or two older CDs in someone’s collection. More like Garage punk than Seventies punk. Although, I didn’t see a farfisa organ or electric jug, guitarist, Bez’s jagged breaks had a definite hint of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators or the Stooges.
It’s never fair to think of bands only in terms of who they sound like, though, and Hoden Lane have a clear sound of their own, a modern one that got more than a few older bodies at the front jumping around on the night." FUSE MAGAZINE
