Drawing from diverse musical influences, HogMaw creates a sound that is based on tradition but is beyond bluegrass, often described as Progressive or NewGrass. Playing in support of their first self-titled release, HogMaw's live performances are a blend of rowdy and rompin' music rooted in bluegrass tradition while at the same time pushing boundaries with edgy melodic riffs and catchy choruses.
Recently, HogMaw was a featured band on WXPN's Folk Show with Gene Shay, and can be heard on many radio stations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. To date, HogMaw has performed at many notable venues and festivals such as: Delfest in Cumberland, MD; American Music Festival in Harrisburg, PA; Camp Jam in the Pines in Monroeville, NJ; The North Star Bar in Philadelphia, PA; Bube's Brewery in Mount Joy, PA; and at Sovereign Bank Stadium in York, PA where HogMaw won the 2009 York Revolution Battle of the Bands and performed a concert for over 7,000 Revs fans.
Leading the band with his strong, rugged voice and sturdy guitar work is Matt Baldwin. Matt has performed in numerous venues; nationwide as a solo artist and backing musician including the Blue Moon Tavern in Seattle, WA, World Café Live in Philadelphia, PA and the International Market in Honolulu, HI and began fronting HogMaw from it's very beginning, only one year ago in 2008.
Ryann Lynch and her fiddle first met the rest of her band mates at Camp Jam in the Pines music festival in the fall of 2008 where an impromptu jam session influenced the creation of HogMaw. Ryann is a Greater Philadelphia Area native, and has played with various artists at local venues such as the Tweeter Center, Electric Factory, and Perlman Hall at the Kimmel Center. Ryann is a Board Certified Music Therapist finishing graduate school at Drexel University, where she is receiving her Masters degree in Music Therapy.
Blending his funk and jam band style of bass playing with HogMaw, Garry Slick isn't afraid to branch out melodically on his instrument while still maintaining a steady hold on the rhythm. Garry has played in various venues along the east coast such as the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA and Sunshine Daydreams in Terra Alta, WV; he actively plays in the Zappa-influenced funk band Dr. Slothclaw.
Bringing his versatile musicianship to the band, Colin Reeves (Kowalewski) provides explosive mandolin playing and technical banjo work to HogMaw's line-up. Playing with numerous musicians in both Central Pa and Greater Philadelphia areas such as Mike Mizwinski, (Gongzilla) and A.D. Chandler, Colin has honed his craft as a session musician.
