British queer female artist.
Mixed media artist (film/installation/photographer/performance), showgirl, DJ and Mistress of Ceremonies.
My artistic intention is to blur the boundaries between both the avant-garde and mass entertainment, pop culture and the underground. Indulging those who worship at the altar of contemporary art and at the bowels of mass media.
Following time in the British Army, I realised my future lay as a visual artist. After studying photography to degree level and moving to Vienna, I developed the performative ‘Drag Goddess’ or ‘Tranny with a Fanny‘ character. Influenced by the Blake Edwards film Victor/Victoria and Gilbert and George’s notion of living sculpture, I adopt the guise of a drag queen in a genetically female body, reclaiming over exaggerated codes of femininity to the female form.
This guise has been performed extensively in the UK, Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Turkey and New York. Upon returning to the UK, I undertook a Fine Art Masters degree at Central St Martins. Previous works investigate sexuality and gender with more recent projects exploring personal history and biography utilising video, performance, photography and installation.

Congratulations on such a great performance last night Holestar. Pleasure to have you at UnderConstruction as always. Looking forward to seeing your new piece constructed. And i vote you for Eurovision 09!
Well darling, for you to describe me as fabulous is quite clearly a big compliment (especially when I can't do my make-up nearly as well as you). So thank you. I am feeling your tranny with a fanny action. Good girl. See you 'round the traps.
Antigone x Here's some bright coloured eye-candy for you:
Julie, it was fab to see you on Androgynous and Proud, even if it was too short! I often listen to my Trannyshack CD/watch the DVD and your 'Hideway' is one of my favourite tracks on there. I've always loved your original 'Tranny with a Fanny' slant, and your voice is simply HUGE!
Keep up the good work, you're a pleasure to listen to and watch.
