About me:

This is really the Holistic Honu Wellness Center's space -- I'm just borrowing it!! - - -
My name is Suzi and I am the Executive Director of the Holistic Honu Wellness Center.

Established November 24, 2004 and approved for 501(c) (3) status February, 2006, the Holistic Honu Wellness Center is a California not-for-profit healing center dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture through education and healing. We firmly believe, as our ancestors did, that spiritual, mental and emotional aspects must all be factored into a holistic approach in order for lokahi (harmony, unity, balance) to be created. It is only then that permanent good health is possible. We serve seventeen counties –and the 29,484 Native Hawaiians that reside within the 17,751 square miles of these counties.

The Holistic Honu Wellness Center is part of an ongoing effort to empower Hawaiians by creating healthy individuals, families, and communities. Our programs have the ability to fill critical gaps in medical care, treatment and illness prevention; our programs benefit individuals, families, and communities regardless of status or ability to pay.

How we do our work is as important as what we accomplish. We are guided by justice and compassion. We strive to create safe community spaces to express what we feel, identify what we need, and be who we are, in all our human complexities. We strive to meet the needs of people who are often distanced from family. We help individuals forge new relationships with both families of origin and chosen families, which are built on trust, respect and caring. We strive to promote wellness—not just prevent illness—as our primary goal and our core value.

We are currently developing our 3-tiered Educational program where we offer instruction on Traditional Hawaiian Healing Arts.

Our Level One program is currently in place and is designed to provide students and practitioners with a better understanding of Lomilomi and Traditional Hawaiian Healing Arts. Our program is NOT designed to compete with other Lomilomi programs, but to ENHANCE other programs – it is for those who want to explore more of this practice than just the body work.

Our Level Two program is designed as an externship and student mentor program, where our Level One instructors work with our students on an “as needed” basis. It is from within our Level Two program where we offer Traditional Healing services to the general public. When it comes to payment or fee-schedules, we follow the old protocol of reciprocity and encourage our students to do the same. Additionally, we bring Loea Kawaikapuokalani Hewett to Sacramento/Roseville, California twice a year to conduct workshops in Traditional healing, Ho’oponopono and Hula for our students and the general public.

We are currently working on our Level Three - Kumu Ho'ola‘Uniki Program. Our Pilot Program is set to launch in 2010, where Loea Hewett will conduct a series of workshops, five days in duration, four times a year at Kahalelehua Retreat Center in Mountain View, Hawaii and every nine months in California - for a period of three years. Contact us if you are interested in being a test subject in this program

If you are in need of our services for an event, please let me know. I have students ready & willing to offer 5 to 15 minute Lomilomi massage services (chair or table) – free of charge to the public – at any charitable event!! (You may have seen us in the Education Tent at the San Francisco Aloha Festival!)

We are looking for a more permanent home some where in Sacramento County. Maybe someday soon!!
