Christopher Bilton - Cahon, glockenspiel, melodica, mandolin
Influences
Anyone whose music is honest and pure - James Taylor, Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Paul Simon, Kate Rusby, Polly Paulusma, there are far too many to mention.
I'm also very inspired by my amazingly talented group of musician friends, including the most excellent David Ward Maclean, Adrian Byron Burns (I swear I've never seen blues guitar like that), heavier bands such as Idle Jack and the Big Sleep, bluesy greatness from le Hijack Oscar, York maestros The Falling Spikes and one of my greatest friends, Steve Hartley (The Notion).
I like to write songs and sing them for people – lots of people. My music sits somewhere between folk and jazz – though I pretty much like everything. Most of my songs are written on a bed, in a little room, with a guitar, whilst staring out of the window.
I’ve done quite a bit of recording so far – it’s real good fun. You can buy my 2005 EP, 2007 album ‘Before I Know’, and new 2009 album ‘Waking Up Is Hard To Do’ from me at a gig, or from iTunes.
A massive part of my life is trying to fit a huge Gibson guitar, a smattering of hand percussion and two tall men in my tiny Ford Ka, then travelling to exotic places around the UK to play my songs. I sometimes play solo, sometimes in a duo, sometimes as a trio…. Since I’ve been singing, I’ve notched up hundreds of live performances. I’ve played lots of folky type festivals, as well as bigger venues and more intimate spaces. I’ll play anywhere you like. Even in car parks.
Aside from the car parks, I have been lucky enough to have supported some excellent artists such as Boo Hewerdine, Rachel Harrington, Edwina Hayes, Ben Parker and Kate Aumonier, The Ruth Notman Band, and Rod Picott and Amanda Shires. I’ve had recognition for my songwriting skills from the BBC’s New Talent initiative, and also worked extensively as a session musician.
My gig list is updated daily - so if there isn’t one on the list that you can get to, let me know and I’ll book one soon. If you’d like to book me for a private function, get in touch – I do these as well :)

Yeah. that would've been awesome. Here in Bergen there's actually quite a few great places for singer/songwriters. It's also one of the closest points to the UK, with a lot of cheap international flights to London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Newcastle.
If you'd ever consider booking any gigs here then let me know. It's never easy to find "the right places" you know..
thanks again for playing such a splendid set. it was a pleasure to hear, see and meet up with you. well done for coping with those incongruous and uncouth inebriate gentlemen. bad luck they turned up. you have a voice like a moon beam and sumptuous songs.
