Love is a word that is constantly heard,
Hate is a word that is not.
Love, I am told, is more precious than gold.
Love, I have read, is hot.
But hate is the verb that to me is superb,
And Love but a drug on the mart.
Any kiddie in school can love like a fool,
But Hating, my boy, is an Art.
~Ogden Nash
Once upon a time there was a little black Rabbit. As far back as it could remember, all the Rabbit ever wanted was for someone to like it. So, the Rabbit went from animal to animal, searching. It came across Horses, Squirrels, Cats, Dogs, and even a Bear once. And to every animal, the little black Rabbit offered itself. The Horse trampled it in fright. The Squirrel nibbled at it, but found that acorns are much tastier. The Cat scratched it and hissed. Both Dogs bit it, the bites mirrored on either side. The Bear clawed it (behind the Raven's back, mind you). The Rabbit took it all and thanked them (because acknowledgment was kindness enough for a stupid Rabbit). Then one day the Rabbit came across another Dog. But this was a Dog it had never encountered before, a Beagle. A funny little thing. Cute. So the Rabbit offered itself to the Beagle. It was a while before the Beagle acknowledged the Rabbit, but the little black Rabbit did not mind. For once, it was licked rather than bitten by a Dog.
