With elements of alt. country, post rock and garage rock., Holy Ghost Fathers play the soundtrack some sort of demented Gothic ‘Country’n’Irish’ road movie. The band hails from Sligo and Dublin.
They launched their debut E.P. ‘Angelus Bell’ in 2002 to positive reviews from local press. ‘Angelus Bell’ was awarded Single of the Issue by the Dublin Event Guide
In 2003 the band released their debut album “Cock of the Walk”. The album was partly recorded in Sun Studios in Temple Bar, and in band’s own rehearsal space on North Frederick St, Dublin. Combining a wide range of influences, the album shows a marked progression of the band’s sound from the Lo-fi sounds of their debut E.P. to a larger, lush, more diverse sound. Through its 10 songs and 55 minutes the album veers from the sucker-punch garage rock wailing of opening track ’Cock of the Walk’ to the wistful post-rock bluegrass of the closer ’Blood in the Ground’. The track ‘9V Battery’ was used as the theme music to TG4 & RTE Greyhound racing show.
HGF also started the monthly live music club in Dublin called the BALLROOM OF ROMANCE
HGF are no more. A second album was recorded but remains unreleased, the fruits of which will be put up here at some stage.
Allen plays in the Spook of the Thirteenth Lock & Hounds and continues to run the Ballroom of Romance club. Phil plays in the Long Knives and Hoovers & Sledgehammers
