   About Holy Trinity Choir

Music at Holy Trinity draws on the vast repertoire of traditional choral music with an emphasis on the Anglican tradition.

Sean O'Neal is the Church's Director of Music/Organist and has served in this position since March 2002. The adult Choir at Holy Trinity is a volunteer organization with additional support from professional section leaders. These section leaders are funded through the generosity of patrons of the Holy Trinity music department.

The Choir sings at the 10:00 a.m. Eucharist every Sunday starting in early September and continuing through Trinity Sunday. Additionally, the Choir provides musical support for special Eucharists such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week services and Easter Vigil. A service of Choral Evensong is presented by the Choir several times during the year including All Saint's Sunday and Trinity Sunday. The adult Choir rehearses on Sunday morning at 8:15 a.m. New singers and instrumentalists of all kinds are encouraged to make themselves known to the clergy or music director. There are always opportunities for participation in our developing ministry of music.

Nice... my name is on it now!

Anyways, remember the "Arise, Shine, For Your Light Has Come" anthem we sang couple weeks or so ago? Well, I had made the Chinese version out of it. The anthem is a little bit different, since I have to add notes and move the characters around. Because this is my first attempt in translation with note fitting, it might sound a little funky.

no i haven't. I was starting seriously thinking about the choir stuff last year when I was at St. Gabriel's when I had to inherit it. They named me by default because I am the most familiar with hymns they sang there. It was a big challenge, since I had to learn on the fly. Generation gap doesn't really help things, either. But I sucked up to manage to lead them last year.

Then, this year hits. New rector, new regime, so to speak. The organist/instrumentalist position is in flux since February, as the choirmaster is just some random person in the choir. Since the church don't pay for a specialist like that, they are hesitant to practice new choir anthems.

I know some people over there may say I am selfish after this year. But, I believe it's time for me to move on spiritually. During this year of ups and downs, it is confirmed that my true calling is in the music ministry, instead of the youth and young adults ministry I thought I am (just because I had been going to the last 3 EAM consultations and a good bit of diocese's young adult events).

surprising that nobody had posted yet.

Anyways, I am hoping that we can have opportunities to bond, especially after end of this year, after I am cleared for not having to go to St. Gabriel's and play there once a month any more. (I needed to play there because my parents think that my departure before then would cause additional stir to the already messy church politics between my family and some members at St. Gabriel's.) Anyhow, I guess I will probably add a new dimension to the choir, as a person who had served in a choir in a Chinese Episcopal Church before as their instrumentalist and organist (though still ways away from Sean's excellence). All in all, I am here to learn. So, please give me some pointers when possible, especially in the early going.
