More than 5 years in to the war in Iraq, the untold stories of the increasing numbers of severely wounded soldiers who return home after serving in combat continue to be overshadowed by death toll reports. HOME FRONT gives a face and voice to these soldiers and their families and the different battle they fight when they come home. Soon after the start of the war, 23-year-old Army Ranger Jeremy Feldbusch was hit by a piece of shrapnel that sliced into his head just above his right eye and lodged in his brain. HOME FRONT captures the human story of Jeremy’s return and readjustment to civilian life in his small Western Pennsylvania hometown, and more importantly, to his new altered self. The result is an insightful view of how one family copes with events that have changed them forever. Heartbreaking and inspiring, HOME FRONT gets behind the often-sanitized myth of war to reveal its real complications and costs.
HEROES Day Project
June 2nd, 2008
Helping and Encouraging the Reintegration of Our Extraordinary Servicemembers
Inspired by their experiences making the critically acclaimed Showtime film Home Front about this subject, Director Richard Hankin and Producer Meredith Lavitt are now spearheading a campaign called HEROES: Helping and Encouraging the Reintegration of Our Extraordinary Servicemembers.
As a first step, the HEROES campaign will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the HOME FRONT DVD to support programs benefiting wounded veterans.
The next step – The HEROES Day Project:
The HEROES Day Project is partnering with individuals and national organizations to dedicate June 2, 2008 (the Monday after Memorial Day) to honor our wounded veterans and the challenging personal journeys they are on right now.
How YOU can take part in the HEROES Day Project:
As Individuals:
1. Organize a screening on June 2nd in your community, at your place of worship, or at your home for family, friends and colleagues.
2. Write an Op-Ed about the Heroes Day Project for your local newspaper or your favorite magazine. Of course, send us a copy too!
3. Buy two DVDs and give one to someone you care about who'd benefit from its inspiring message.
