What is Home Movie Day?
Home Movie Day is a worldwide celebration of amateur films and filmmaking. Home Movie Day is held annually at numerous locations worldwide on the second Saturday in August and will next be held on August 12, 2006. Home Movie Day events provide an opportunity for individuals and families to learn more about their own family movies, how to care for films, and how home movies have helped capture our own history. Join us on 8/12/06 for the fourth annual International Home Movie Day. Bring in your home movies or just come and watch. Be entertained, and while you're at it learn all about how to preserve your own films. Home Movie Day began in 2003, when a small group of film archivists decided to go beyond traditional preservation methods to try and save the countless reels of home movies shot on film during the 20th century. This will be the Santa Clarita Valley’s 2nd year participating in Home Movie Day. For more info on Home Movie Day's locations see www.homemovieday.com.

Last years Santa Clarita event was a huge success! We held it at the Santa Clarita Senior Center where more that 60 people came throughout the day! The variety of things we saw was incredible, and the tears flowed freely! From the couple married over 25 years who had never seen their wedding films, to a man who was part of the Ballet Rouse in the 1950’s who had a film of himself performing at the Chicago Opera House, to the sisters who drove down from Lancaster to see the films of themselves growing up in New Jersey, to old Route 66 vacation footage, to the typical family celebrations of the 50’s and 60’s at the beach, at Disney Land and in the backyard, that are so revealing about the way we lived our lives in decades past. At home movie day we can get that emotional charge where we momentarily relive the past while sharing it in the present and preserving it for the future! This years event we hope will be even better! We have moved in to the REP, a 70 person community theatre with projection booth.

Why this event is important to me:
I have spent my career at Pro8mm working with people who love to shoot and archive small format film! I feel that I have a responsibility to help in way that I can to reach out to the general public and help to raise the collective consciousness on how important it is to preserve your family films and share them with your extended family and the next generation! I saddens me tremendously to know that there are so many people who discard these treasures! If a picture is worth a thousand words, than a home movie is worth a million. DON’T THOW YOUR FILM AWAY! BRING THEM TO HOME MOVIE DAY!
For more information about my company go to www.pro8mm.com.

I have lived and been active in the Santa Clarita Valley community for 20 years and feel that our home town nature and the importance we place on family is in line with the importance of home movie preservation. As I have watched the Valley change these past two decades , I want to get a glimpse of the films people have of the early days when it was still a farming community and before suburban sprawl completely transformed the Santa Clarita way of life.
Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone with old home movies who would like to share their stories! Come to home movie day. I’ll provide the Kleenex!
