Oct 9 2008 1:29 AM

Hey Sonny! I started reading on my copy of the Red Helmet, and to my surpise I couldn't put it down! I was at Ch.5 before I knew it. Thats very rare for me because I never read, but I can't seem to put this book down. It's great. I didn't realize what you had ment when you quoted my book by saying "Don't make easy things hard." But, thats what Cable says to Song :) awww it's such a sweet love story so far and I can't wait to read more! Tell Linda I'm still rockin my necklace...havent taken it off yet! Also, Tell Walt and Sue I wish I could have saw them this year, but I did volunteer to stick right by their side for next year! Take Care!

I hope you and your boys had a great time over the weekend. I was not able to make it this time, but my mom said she finally got her poem to you and my brother got a Gilligan hat. A good time was had by all. Now get back to work...the show must go on. Kudos.

Hey Homer.....love the new song...that is just such a great story song about your growing up years....man I bet you just had such a blast as a kid..even if you were always looking for a way out and to never return to Coalwood.....it may have been a very hard life for those there...but you took life by the tail and ran with it...and now have given so many from back home a great way to look back on those times and enjoy even the hard memories of a place, time, and era that are forever lost in the recesses of time....but because of you, and your awesome way with words, you bring to life almost as vivid as a picture, the things of the past in a way that those of us who didn't get to experience it, can almost feel as if we are there when we set down to read for a spell.....keep up the awesome work and God Bless your richly for being such an inspiration to so many~! Hey H3!
Just wanted to drop by and let you know that we had a meeting last night and things seem to be falling into place very well for the festival. I have to give credit to Reba, Carol and Helen for keeping things going while I was gone but I still had quite a few contacts to make and parade lineups and all the leftover goodies to do. But, it's all worth it in the end. Love to Linda and the kitties! See you in about 3 weeks!

Photobucket I just watched October Sky again, it had been a while. Makes me want to work harder to make history winning a Grammy with a completely self produced record. My daddy was like yours but our coal mine was the U.S. Army, something about stormy lives to make roots dig deeper. Groove on rocket boy, you are a rock star in my worldview.
Science rocks!

Yesterday I tried to find your new book, and I had no luck. The library did not even carry many of your titles, including your new book (what are they thinking)!

My students and I loved October Sky and Sky of Stone. I must say that RED HELMET was so interesting; I couldn't put it down and neither could my niece. I was visiting her and she was reading the end and then we talked about how good it was. We can't wait to see the movie.

I agree with "East" that posted the comment a couple below me. You "ARE" an inspiration to me and many others. I hope anyone that tries to chase down their dreams hears your story or see's your film, and inspires them to continue to push forward despite all the negative things that might get in their way. Hopefully, they'll be just as passionate as you were and remain to be. I've never met you Mr. Hickam, but I would love to come to the next October Sky Festival in Coalwood. My girlfriend is a cosmotologist, and she just done a set of twins hair the other day that just happened to be in town from Coalwood for a wedding. I asked her if she talked to them about anything related to your story or the annual event cause I talk about your story all the time and occassionaly put October Sky in the dvd player as I offer your story to others that have dreams they wanna follow so badly. Thanks for sharing your story with the world who choose be somebody.
