When Leila Harrison and Matt Clarke started playing music together six years ago, there wasn’t much of a plan. Matt was finishing theatre school and playing coffee shops, and Leila was busy acting and had never sung publicly. But over the ensuing years Honey and the Money took form, as the singer-songwriters carefully and relentlessly carved out a sound and voice for themselves.
Two years in the making, their first full length record, “The Elephant in the Room,” is an ambitious and stunning debut. With moments that rock to moments that break your heart, “The Elephant in the Room” is everything you want in a record. Produced by Jared Kuemper (Tegan and Sara, Jann Arden), it is filled with hooks and stories, musically and lyrically compelling.
From the release of their first EP, “Songs From the Seventh Floor,” to now, the duo have played countless shows across Canada. The duo was also invited to support their friend, Australian award winning singer songwriter, Ben Lee on a string of his US tour dates. They've been featured on television across the country as well.
These Calgary born, Vancouver based singer-songwriters are gaining some serious momentum. And with the weight of “The Elephant in the Room” behind them, they are going to be hard to stop.
"Shimmering vocals and full-band arrangements distinguish the pair from soulless crud of the same genre. Think contemporized mid-‘70s Fleetwood Mac or, for that matter, Buckingham Nicks. Well-conceived and professionally produced. FOUR STARS." - TV Week Magazine.
"One of Vancouver's Best Bands." - The Westender, Vancouver
"Vancouver-based duo Honey and the Money hit all the right marks in their debut album. Harrison’s voice is soothing and seems to come effortlessly. Melted with Clarke’s vocals, the duo has established an album that flows eloquently." - The Peak, Vancouver
"The Elephant in the Room sounds remarkably cohesive. It’s a bright pop-country collection." - The Province, Vancouver.
"I love this band Honey and the Money. They are a duo consisting of Matt Clarke and Leila Harrison. From the moment I heard Leila's voice I was sold." - John Beaudin, QMFM Vancouver, RockHistoryBook.com.
"Perhaps their album title speaks it all, as this band brings a greatness to the music scene that is unique and special. Their sound is not only fresh, but also highly sustainable and can be enjoyed by lovers of many genres." - The Peak (Simon Fraser University)
What's goin' on Honey And The Money? Your essence is equal to the beauty of a galaxy. The sand runes crossing your divided consciousness do speak of contemptuous monsters being slayed by flying phoenixes. I love your eyes, I know they can stare through my thoughts. Your eyes are like spheres of crystal water filled with shimmering dreams. The stickers hugging the fruit smell better than the perfume of ambergris. You ever remind me of the enigma of happy thoughts I once forgot. Your wonderfully bright soul keep the demons from torturing me. All my thoughts are lost to your graceful gaze? The music that flows from your instruments overwhelms me with creativity. A starfish's lifelong hallucinations of gelatin pools and of actuaries floating upon the foam and reciprocal ohm. How can I help but use your eyes as a means for self-asphyxiation? You are dressed with filaments and people take pains to make you fully incandescent this evening. Your hair sends forth a sheen remniscent of golden sunlight winding through shadows.

Why is it so hard for me to say hello, You’ve hit my heart like an arrow, Give me your endless breath, So I could cheat death, I feel your heart beat in my chest.
I’m walking in your direction, All I feel is pain, Love is a losing game, Feels like I’m falling from the sky, I have no wings to fly, Why can’t you just be mine? Life is a one way mission, So I need your heart to listen,
Get to know me, You might get lonely, I could see through your eyes, Love is not guilty, Forget about going our separate ways, Love is a such crazy thing, You make me burn without the flame, Another unsolved mystery, Love is not guilty.
