No way should they spend even a minute on General Thoughts and Tastes. Like a rainbow born of rain and sun, Honey For Petzi have conjured up amazing colors, contrasting with the generic ideas and the tedious aesthetics that the ironical title would have you expect. Reinventing their long lasting formula, the Swiss trio voicingly creeps out of the hypnotic instrumentals we knew them for, offering an enchanting new take on their time tested dynamics. You can feel hints of Pinbacky melodies, French Touch synthesizers, or even "Musical Box" era Genesis but fear not, the band only eyes pastiche from afar, never falling into easy references and heavy symbolism. Even though the spirit of The Pop Song has been invited in, the pugnacious art of Honey For Petzi is still striking, the riffs still beveled, the creases rough and intense. Recorded live, constantly torn between electric brutality and minute refinement, General Toughts And Tastes is a sonic kiwi: peel off the silky surface and you'll discover a complex acid ball of energy. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Certains n'ont jamais digéré le passage du noir-blanc à la couleur. A ceux-ci, on déconseillera l'écoute de General Thoughts And Tastes. Comme l'invention, par la pluie et le soleil de l'arc-en-ciel, les trois d'Honey For Petzi se sont découvert ici des couleurs inouïes. Belle ironie dans ce titre d'album, promettant des idées génériques, des goûts convenus. En offrant à son esthétique marmoréenne un festival de fresques baroques, le trio le plus endurant de la scène lausannoise fait le pari de ré-enchanter son rock en chantant. Les oreilles avisées croiront peut-être y déceler l'efficacité pop d'un Pinback, l'art mélodique osé du Genesis de "Musical Box" ou les synthés vintage de la French Touch. Références possibles d'une musique qui flirte avec le pastiche, sans jamais y succomber. Car si la palette s'est ouverte à la façon d'un éventail, ce n'est, une fois encore, que pour mieux électriser l'air ambiant. Envoûté par les esprits de la chanson pop, l'art pugnace d'Honey For Petzi, mélange de frappes implacables et de riffs biseautés n'y perd pas au change. Capté dans des conditions proches du live, constamment tiraillé entre l'électricité brute et le raffinement infime, General Thoughts And Tastes invente le kiwi sonore: soyeux en surface - acide, complexe et vitaminé sous la peau.
