Don't necessarily sound like anyone, but songs and elements of the band were compared to the following... (with Heather singing): Julee Cruise, Talulah Gosh, Pale Saints, Galaxie 500, All About Eve, Lush, Bleach, The Sundays, Curve, Heavenly... (with Ronnie singing): The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Del Amitri, Julian Cope, Hawkwind, Echo & the Bunnymen, Roxy Music, Beethoven (the great Ludwig Van... when you hear Honeysuckle Bride, you'll understand!) The Doors, Sparks, Ride, Dinosaur jr, Syd Barrett, The Monkees, The Dentists (whom I've only just heard)...and doubtless millions of others!
Latterly, some very kind people have compared Ronnie's demos to Graham Coxon, Elvis Costello, Nick Drake, Teenage Fanclub, Television Personalities and George Harrison (!) Bless you all!
Formed at Magee College in Derry by Ronnie Carnwath in 1991, the band wrote some fine and memorable tunes, which went unrecorded, except in rough demo form, and also went through a dazzling array of drummers in their short life span. Equally in love with the noisy art rock of The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Velvet Underground and the mellow sounds of Cowboy Junkies and Julee Cruise. They enjoyed some success locally, before calling it a day in 1993. They kind of petered out, before they could reach their true potential. They lost touch with each other, although Ronnie has managed to track down Colin (bass) and Heather (vocals) in Omagh and Bury St. Edmonds respectively. Recently he also managed to find Alison, who is back in Banbridge. Cathy is still in Dungiven, as far as I can tell. Now, it's just Ronan... drummer extraordinaire! If anyone from Magee happens to be reading this and knows the whereabouts of Ronan Cunningham, please point him in this direction?
This Sunday we're heading to The Pavilion in Belfast! Kitty and The Can Openers are playing as well. Hope to see ya there! 8 pm (sorry for the blinding colours!!)
