Music
I like lots of different genres of music but I am quite particular. I very rarely feel indifferent to what I hear. Bland music irritates the hell out of me. My sister described the music I like as jazz-fusion prog rock, she might be on to something. I find that the music that gets to me on an emotional level is usually metalcore but not everything I listen to is heavy. I love bands with real poetry to their lyrics - Firewater or The Vanity Project for example. I also think the Leeds music scene is ace at the moment, my favourite local bands are Severed Heaven, The Uprights, Blacklisters and White Boys for Gay Jesus. Some band I like are: Therapy?, Cop Shoot Cop, Scroobius Pip vs Dan Le Sac, Little John Rocket, Turbonegro, Evergreen Terrace, Beekeepers, Against Me!, Calexico, Violent Femmes, Le Singe Blanc, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Social Distortion, Zoundz, Fugazi, NoMeansNo, Pink Martini, Rocket From The Crypt, Fiona Apple, most Mike Patton projects (Lovage is my favourite), Black Box Recorder, Rico... I enjoy countless musicals (Batboy and The Wedding Singer especially) and I love musical comedy: Stephen Lynch, Richard Cheese, Phoebe Kreutz, Otis Lee Crenshaw, Flight of the Conchords.
Movies
My favourite film of all time is Jaws. I like old B&W films like Bringing Up Baby and His Girl Friday and also Hammer Horror (I do not like modern horror films, they are gratuitous and nasty). Alfred Hitchcock is ace, The Trouble With Harry is a favourite. Films of the 80s make me happy (teen ones like Lost Boys, Breakfast Club etc but also Blues Brothers, Brewster's Millions all that sort of stuff). At random: new Star Trek was frickin awesome, Bubba Ho-tep, Evil Dead (1 and 3, 2 was cack), The Cable Guy, 300, Bill & Ted, Die Hard (...Brucefest...), Best In Show, Batman Begins, Sweeney Todd, Princess Bride and lots of surprisingly joyful tosh like Legally Blonde and White Chicks. Most recent purchase: Mega Shark VS Giant Octopus
Television
Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Columbo, Buffy, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek Next Generation, Scrubs, Black Books, Veronica Mars, Futurama, Shameless, Spaced, Twilight Zone, '90s comedy (Mary Whitehouse Experience, Sean's Show, Mr Don & Mr George etc), newer stuff like Heroes and Damages, more old stuff like Bottom, Blackadder etc.
Books
Authors: Anything by John Irving, The Hotel New Hampshire is probably my favourite. Actually, not anything because Setting Free The Bears was rubbish... but all his other books are great. Robert Rankin is awesome, be sure to start with The Antipope before you read anything else by him. Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events took over my life, I'm rereading them to my spawn at the moment. Simon Green's stuff is cool, if you like knights and dragons and that sort of thing, which I do. Martin Millar (
http://www.myspace.com/martinmm) is amazing, Lonely Werewolf Girl is a masterpiece but you should read everything he's ever written.
More: The Breeders Box by Timothy Murphy, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, Bear VS Shark by Chris Bachelder, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon.
I like autobiographies, If Chins Could Kill by Bruce Campbell is excellent. I'm on LL Cool J at the moment.
