.. ! HOO DOO GIRL is three women that sing a lot. You know - Oohh, oohh and ahhh ahhh. That kind of stuff. Remember the big girl groups from the 60s? The Shirelles, the Ikettes, the Dixie Cups Well, thats sort of what it sounds like when Hoo Doo Girl sing. BUT what does a Dusty Springfield song sound like when you play it on the accordion and sing the horns? Good question, huh? But dont worry your head about it too much. All of Hoo Doo Girls songs are originals anyway.

The name? Oh, they got that from a Dr. John song I been hoodooed. Silke, Susie and Peta are passionate fans and collectors of music from the deep South states of the USA and thats where they found the inspiration to cook up their own volatile stew a cup of Stax Soul, a bowl of Rhythm and Blues, dont forget the Motor City, a pinch of Country and Zydeco all rounded up with a big dollop of Rock n Roll.

But what the hell. Why not just listen to it yourself? Bon Appetit.

HOO DOO GIRL haben seit ihrer fast ausverkauften Plattenreleaseparty im Hafenklang-Exil im Dezember 2007 kaum einmal eine Nacht im heimischen Bett verbracht. Stattdessen konnte man sie nachts um drei durch Paris kurven sehen, auf der fast vergeblichen Suche nach dem Express-Billig-Hotel „Formule 1“. Oder sie standen um diese Zeit gerade auf der Bühne des improvisierten Rock’n’Roll Clubs „Barre“ an der italienischen Adria, der aussieht, als hätte ein Hobbybastler kurz mal seinen Wohnwagen mit Vorzelt zu einem heißen Rhythm 'n Blues Juke Joint umfunktioniert. Ehrlich gesagt kam es sogar vor, dass die drei Frauen mitten in der Nacht in einer Bar in Sierra Leones Hauptstadt Freetown, schon leicht angetrunken, zur eigenen Musik tanzten und sich zuprosteten...


Schlafen wäre auch schön gewesen – aber stattdessen haben HOO DOO GIRL ihren 60s-Garagen-Soul in der halben Welt verbreitet, denn das war ja noch schöner:
Sie packten seit Januar rund 40 mal Akkordeon, Bass und Bonsaischlagzeug ein und aus - in einschlägigen Clubs in Deutschland, der Schweiz, Italien, Frankreich und Sierra Leone (West -Afrika). Und dort, am Rande des Äquators, überlebte die Rock ‚n’ Roll Band nicht nur zwei Helikopterflüge und drei Konzerte vor Hunderten von Karaokemusik gewohnten Afrikanern (-– von denen sich übrigens nicht wenige nach anfänglicher Verblüffung wegen der „handgemachten“ Musik durchaus zum Hipshake hinreißen ließen!) in den Open-Air-Diskotheken von Freetown. Die drei Hamburgerinnen brachten es sogar zum glühenden Konzertreview auf der Titelseite der dortigen Tageszeitung "Pool". Und wurden anschließend vom beigeisterten Besucher ihrer Rock ‚n’ Roll Show, dem Freetown Kult-RadioDJ „King Millan“ zum einstündigen Radiointerview in seine Sendung gebeten...

Nun sind sie zurück und weil alles so aufregend war können sie kaum schlafen. Ihre Musik ist irgendwie noch schwärzer geworden. Wie das dann klingt? Lässt sich bei den nächsten Konzerten (s.o.) erleben!

SILKE THOSS (sings, plays accordion, writes lots of songs) Silke lives off the sales of her pop-art pictures of soul, blues and country musicians. When shes not busy painting away in her St. Pauli subterranean gallery , you can sometimes hear her high-speed zydeco squeeze-box wafting up through the grates while shepractices with her other band The Watzloves (Voodoo Rhythm Records). PETA DEVLIN (sings, plays bass, drums, guitar and writes songs) Peta can probably play every instrument lying around in the underground garage Hoo Doo Girl call their practise room. After leaving England, she played bass and sang for 10 years with the all-girl pop band Die Braut haut ins Auge (BMG), followed by the punk band Oma Hans (Schiffen Records) and regularly pours her heart out as the singer, mandoline player and songwriter with the country band COW (Trikont).

SUSIE REINHARDT (sings, plays drums, guitar and writes songs) Susie had to learn piano when she was a child but quickly escaped that destiny and changed to guitar and drums. She played a detuned Mosrite guitar with the band Doktor X and a D.I.Y. construction (from a kitchen side-board) slide guitar and drums with DM Bob and the Deficits (Crypt, Voodoo Rhythm, Fanboy Records).
